Thanks, John. Yes, the helpfile is strangely vague on everything to do with Dolby and downmixing. I’ve looked at those same parameters you’ve listed and wondered if that’s the ticket, but I’m still not sure. I’m reading through all the settings descriptions on the Dolby site to see if that will shed any light on it. One user from the Vegas forum a few years ago said that using the downmix to wav and selecting the “stereo downmix” option in the channels section creates a file that behaves like a Lt/Rt when run through a Dolby decoder even though it’s not a Dolby-encoded file. This makes some sense since even a normal Lo/Ro will exhibit some form of L-C-R-S behavior when played back through the decoder. I’ll contact Sony support and see if anybody there knows the inside scoop. My guess is that their Dolby plugin is not capable of creating a true Pro Logic II file as that probably would have cost a lot more in licensing fees. In any event, I’m still researching and experimenting and will report back if I learn anything significant.
