So I had been using the old version 4 but couldn’t see some specific frame rates out to monitor and tape. I’ve reinstalled the Kona version 5.1 but it’s still crashing…

Decomposing gives you a new sequence with offline media that has had all the clips trimmed to only include the media used in the edit + handles. If you’ve edited at low resolution you then recapture only the media you need at the online rez.

    Hey Jeremy.
This was a new install of Leopard. I’ve been chatting with AJA support and he’s had me trash v 5.1 and install the older v4. We’ll see…..

I’ve been writing some in depth comparisons of certain Avid and FCP features on my blog. They might be helpful:

I’ve been writing and compiling some links to articles on Avid and Final Cut Pro comparisons that may be a bit of help:

I agree they are very different programs but I personally see the similarities more than the difference. I’ve done some small things like mapping my FCP keyboard to match the Avid as closely as I can. It really help in that I jump back and forth on an almost daily basis.

Do you have any Avid Quicktime codecs installed? Check into Quicktime components and codecs and remove anything Avid. This fix was posted last night on the Apple forums.

If you have to use Firewire drives check out G-Technology, G-RAID drives.

Where is the media living? Is it on a dedicated fast drive? Is this Dv25 or a format that require high data rates…. sounds like the drive isn’t fast enough.

I agree with the above. Just the fact that these old systems run on old Macs is very frustrating. If you do get a long edit done just wait until the client has to have a dvd encoded or suddenly wants Magic Bullet film-looked across it all…. the new Avids are mostly affordable (never thought I’d say that about Avid) across the product line.
