3d stroke or just the stroke plug in and a simple circular mask is as easy as it gets.
good luck

No, college is not a pre requisite, but in my 17 yrs of working all around this country, the hi end,
art director and csd positions are rarely people without degrees. There are always exceptions, but I only feel comfortable recommending the best way to go first. That said, i mean no disrespect to the thousands of very talented animators our there without degrees.Ive always wanted to own and run my own facility, thats my dream. A college degree can teach you business and management related skills that make it that much easier for the ‘guy with the really good reel’ to take the next step to opening up his own company. Think BIG. College, is no guarantee, but it definately sets you up for a lot more than just the graphic side of our business.
my 2 cents.

Paul, thats good advice. I probably have seen you given that I would pretty much walk through the students at Columbia on my way to lunch or the bank 3-4 times a week. I was the Senior Animator Mograpgh Designer at FOX Chicago for 5 years. Im in LA now.
Anyway, I would second the notion that design skills are something to focus on. You will need those regardless of what aspect of video- content creation you choose. Good design will separate you from the pack. It comes naturally to some and takes hard work and experience for others. I personally feel that focusing on motion graphics is the ‘safest’ way to go. You will be taught design in all its forms which, like we said here is critical. As you learn mograpgh you have the ability and knowledge to branch off into editing or into more of a 3d centric field with a really good core knowledge of design. My personal
experience is that you will need to be open to working and living anywhere. There are jobs out there,
especially if you dont limit yourself to just the city you live in. imho.(I chose LA to live in due in large part to the huge number of creative opportunities here for animators)

I know the guys at Giant Octopus and have done work for them. Respectfully, they did NOT use digital
juice for that. They are paid a LOT of money to create the imagery they do and from what I saw, there
was a lot of basic shapes, but also some pretty advanced matte effects. Thats just hours of work and dozens and dozens of layers. IMHO at the high end in production in this country (usa) anyway, you can
see a digital juice type stock footage effect a mile away.Scott

looks like 3d stroke plug in to me, pretty easy and straight forward, if I am seeing what your asking about. Good luck.

any one of millions of ideas come to mind. Try playing with after effects’ 3d space
and moving the various images around in 3d space in creative ways. I would suggest viewing other peoples work, watch some cable tv stuff to find some inspiration. Ideas are everywhere,

great stuff Arie! thats virtually step by step of how I did the water, except I used actual rainwater
and tapped the surface of the glass to get movement. At the time I did not have a project for
that look, but saw the rain as an opportunity to get some good stock imagery for later projects.
I got perfect droplets out of it especially. Your tutorial is better, more controlled, AND you don’t have to wait for actual rain, lol 🙂

thats what I love about this particular forum. People, once in a while anyway, can be so creative in their problem solving techniques. I was pretty sure no one else had tried or done what I did, but their are so many of us that it was silly of me to think so.

Mark, I LOVE your “old school” solution. Its so refreshing to hear an ‘outside of the box’ way of doing an
effect. Ive done a similar thing with rain droplets on glass after a storm.
…………
Ive also had success manually animating masks, (time consuming) and using re-visions shade shape plug-in to the result. Its got some nice controls to give your “fluid\blood” some real good texture and feel.Scott
