a 3d app and the spftware Real Flow by Next Limit is the way to go for that effect.

Ron is correct, I use 3d heavily in my work and it has to be done that way. #1 you need a nude human model that you texture with a highly refractive glass texture setting. Than, in my opinion, the worlds best water simulation software is Real Flow (version 4 now) I own it, and its incredible. You animate the models move in your 3d package of choice, then with the plug in provided by real flow you export that motion INTO the realflow ‘simulator’ there are a number of fluid emitters that you can aim and effect velocity on. Aim them strategically to bounce off the model in various ways. Real flow also lets you combine multiple shades of fluids splashing into each other, like the video, and mixing beautifully. You then export the fluid meshes back into your 3d app and texture accordingly. Blend effects
(sorry Ron) are not the way to go here. Applying the proper shading to
the 3d meshes and raytracing will give you the clean crisp splashes of water you are looking for. In Hollywood here, there are specialists that JUST DO WATER, it can be that daunting. Good luck

Ive been able to get particle illusions fire to look pretty darn real.
There are so many fire presets scattered all over Pi and each one is slightly different not to mention you can go in and manipulate them at the particle level. After that, I use some of the hundreds of ACTUAL fire clips I have purchased over time on the net.

Particle Illusion, to me, is a powerful but slow, and is not friendly
as you have to tweak you settings and re render and re render. It takes forever.

I dont want this taken the wrong way but frankly, a good eye and talent
is your best friend on this one.

    good luck

I cant think of a “video” per say. But something like the itunes
full screen motion graphics is what I may try and make or copy.
Its very trippy and techno ravey.

Otherwise, a program like particle illusion can quickly create all kinds of animated backgrounds.

You need to be a little more detailed as to your needs. How long is the video. Can you create a 1 or 2 minute loop. etc etc

my initial thoughts, are that theres a lot of manual work involved with copying pasting reversing footage and holding. I could guarantee I could match that look doing it the laborious manual way.

But what could maybe do it faster? My first guess is the plug in
for AE by re vision. Twixtor Pro. You can enter settings based on “speed” so theoretically, you would have the footage playing at 100 speed, over 1 or 2 frames keyframe the 100 to 0. then hold a frame and keyframe a -100. Go back and forth to your taste. Thats my first guess. Twixtor Pro is pretty cool and works well in clean shots, like in that video. It does well with complicated footage as well, but occasionally will give you fits.

Messing with time displacement filters may also help.
