Start with Sound Keys and the music audio. Apply the sound keys generated keyframes on your AE timeline to reveal and drive your bar graphs, which you coud build in Photoshop or Illustrator. Or use one of the plug-ins like Noize Industries offers, perhaps.

I’ve checked out particle illusion and haven’t found an emitter that looks like this… (I’ve downloaded the last couple of years of available emitters) can you be more specific about the one you were thinking about…

also, I’m thinking about trying the Sound Keys approach…
I’m not great with Sound Keys but will try to figure out how to make what you are talking about…

I know how to use it but to set it up to create the kind of complex cascading motion I need sounds like it will need some kind of expression (I’m among the many expression challenged individuals who are lurking around the cow trying to find someone who has done something similar emough to re-purpose for my own evil needs)

if anyone knows of such an appropriate expression please point me in it’s direction…

I’d like to say thanks to everyone who took some time to help me get this one worked out…

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I’m surprised that no one in the community realized this…

I was noodling around with the Audio Waveform effect and tweaked it to get exactly what I was looking for… added a couple of glows… and all of my waveform wet dreams have come true…

I’ll post up my finished product and a project when I’m done…
