Anne Coates is one of my all time heros. The love scene in Out of Sight is, to me, one of the single greatest achievements in editing. Very noticeable editing with crazy jumps in time; but so eloquent, sensual, and flawless.

Is it your hard disc going to sleep? Look in system prefs, under “energy saver”, and uncheck “put hard disc to sleep when possible”. Might be the problem, might not but it should be unchecked for an edit system anyway.

Use Color. Go into the secondary room, create a vignette around the offending window, adjust. You could do something similar in After Effects if you wanted to.

No my gear is important and I wont compromise on quality or protection. I’m hauling it around on subways in NY so I was hoping for something that protected as well as a Pelican, but lighter in weight for when I am hauling it up and down all those stairs.

Final Cut Pro is part of Final Cut Studio. What version are you on? What flavor of HD? FCP has been able to work with HD since v4 I believe.
