  • Hi,
Is it possible to render with black magic codec without the blackmagic card ? i know one can read the files but suppose it needs the hardware to write one.

yes, it can read, dont render any thing on time line. dissolves and associted clips may be a problem. good option is to take without dissolves or wipes

or just open the printed edl and see if it shows time code from your tapes or aux timecodes starting in range from 00:00:00:00. it should show timecodes from your tapes only. aux timecodes are not upgradeble.

cut only edl is safe bet

  • Yes, it’s cost effective. almost 1/3 to 1/4th in terms of rawstock alone. Plus you can shoot really fast on 16mm as the cameras are lighter and easy to move around. plus camera crew is less. the cost of DI negates this advantage. But i have seen some really good optical blow ups. You can sell your film before the DI. i.e do the di once you have sold the film. so that budget for Di comes from there. Otherwise you have to purchase that much extra stock etc from your film budget. Di also saves the cost of Final TK for dvd and braodcast.
    now think your self

  • Yes, you can do that. you will get sync. but the contrast ratio of the images or the quality will not be as great as a TK. Still try it, if you are happy with the quality, whats the harm.

  • I am also facing similar problems. with win 20000 if i upgrade my service pack above one it doesnot detect my camera/deck. even windows xp service pack2 does not detect camera. i have to check removing service pack for the camera. mostly i am using with avid dv.

The docking station with sony camera has nothing inside to go wrong. i have opened it and found out. it just have connections. No chips or electronics.

    Hi,
I dont think so the the quality of dv will be great in this method. first of all, you will not get sync. i.e you will see black bands on the picture. you did.nt tell your camera is ntsc or pal. you can get good sync if your projector can be made to run at 25fps if shooting for pal,not 24fps.

it’s better to get it transfered to beta/dv from a telecine house or people who do professional conversions. some photographic dealers still do.

considering you have captured a good dv.
    leave the GOP setting default.
the field order is lower field first everywhere if you are working with dv. i.e camera captures lower field first. that’s why you have to keep it that way in the entire chain

    ps

if you can sync your projector to your dvand not happy with the contrast of the image(please do the below at your own risks)

remove the projector lens and with a macro lens or cu lenses attached to your dv camera try to frame the projector gate. and then shoot

or remove the dv camera lens( you will have to fool the camera electronics so that it still detects that lens is attached and camera works) keep the camera and projector head to head thier optical axis aligned and project the image directly on the ccd. you will have some time focusing the projector such a small image.
the lens of the projector have to come quite a way ahead to project such a image.

any way i think these procedures are risky and good for people who know what they are doing.

  • Yes, exporting as avi and then encoding with canopus pro coder2 works well with me too. no i am not using the wizard. what i usually do is from premiere choose =export- procoder exporter…
which launches the pro coder 2. and after adding target etc. press convert. as soon as i press convert premiere pro reorts a serious error and craqshes. it’s the premiere pro which crashes.
this method worked really well with premiere 6.5
