You might be able to export an XML of the timeline and import in into FCP5.1. But you won’t be able to open the project.

One more thing to add is the fact that the G5 2.0Ghz won’t handle ProRes well. I have a current MacBook Pro and I love it. Even using motion it is out performing our G5 dual 2.5 towers.
With a second monitor, eSATA or FW800 card, and an AJA IO HD, you’ll be rocking!

I’d use the alpha matte blending mode. Then use solids to define the areas to be split. You’ll end up with quite a few layers.

Try using the render manager to delete all of your render files. If that doesn’t help, try deleting your preferences.
You might also try copying parts of your sequence into a new project and trying to determine if it is still happening. It could just be a couple of files that have become curupt.
Also, try saving your project with a different name using the Save As command.

Yes.

DV NTSC 720×480 at the same frame rate your sequence is.
If you had FCP instead of FCE, the answer would be different. But for FCE in standard definition, it only works in DV.

So you want Option T to play in reverse? Is that what you’re asking?
Regardless, you can change a lot of keyboard shortcuts by going to Tools – Keyboard Layout – Customize.
