  • How do I create a split scrren that doesn’t lock to the image?

Posted by Per Rönnecke on October 4, 2007 at 8:57 pm

    Hi!

This maybe is a basic question, but I haven’t yet found any solution.

I have to create a split screen with three vertical images. Then I have to move the picture within the split so that the people moving in the image is visible in the split.

Everything that I have tried so far makes the split edge move with the image.

    Any solution?

I’d use the alpha matte blending mode. Then use solids to define the areas to be split. You’ll end up with quite a few layers.

Thank’s Russel! That should be working. As you said, some layers!

It was easier in the old days with a linear switcher….and some b-rolls 🙂

    Thanks again!

You need to download the FCP plugIn called DH Box-

Take a look at the demo.

    The plugIn costs…

    $20.00

    Thanks, Matte!

I have downloaded the demo and will try it tomorrow. Seems to be something I’ve been looking for. Almost like the old fashion way 🙂

    Thanks again!

For track mattes with solids I use “travel matte luma.” I use this A LOT, it is very flexible and easy to keep track of by using a specified color matte for each layer, a little trick I found. That way you can quickly tell which matte you need to move.

I usually just use the matte generator and the crop sliders. it is a very fast and clean workflow.

DH Box is very good, but I don’t think it’s as quick as dragging things in the canvas. Render times are probably a wash.

    Have a wonderful day.

But for $20, its a miracle.

Still not as flexible as using travel mattes in my opinion. But very good.

    Have a wonderful day.

Thanks, all! I used the travel matte and I’m at the moment satisfied. I didn’t try the DH-Box, but I will when I don’t have a deadline 🙂
