I have been getting a troubling error in FCP recently. When I open a project up, or try to render a sequence, it will stop and a dialogue box will appear saying ‘General Error 34’.

I’m concerned this might have to do with corrupt files. This is especially troubling, because this is DVCPRO HD media from the P2 card. Therefore these clips are my masters, though I have backed them up on other drives- but it would be a bit of a nightmare to deal with.

Any thoughts on what this error means and how I might contain it?

For the record, I’m running FCP 6.0.1 on a PowerMac G5.

    Thanks in advance.

Try using the render manager to delete all of your render files. If that doesn’t help, try deleting your preferences.

You might also try copying parts of your sequence into a new project and trying to determine if it is still happening. It could just be a couple of files that have become curupt.

Also, try saving your project with a different name using the Save As command.
