duh! Does this update only work with FCP 5.1????
I’m still running 5.0.4, and didn’t plan on updating to Universal because I’m still running G5’s and don’t plan to upgrade anytime soon….or at least until everyone one is happy with the MacPro machines.

    Thanks

If you plan to wait out the Mac Pro bugs (as I am), the LH will serve you fine. I have a similar setup to yours. The LHx is running fine for me on my dual 2Ghz.
As Bob noted, one job should pay for it…it does SD and HD. All the card you’ll ever need as long as you don’t need the upconvert features, etc…
The BOB is nice, but it mirrors the cables. Its a little messier, but it works. I think the only thing missing is the extra RCA monitor outputs…. but with the Mackie in the mix, you won’t need it.

I won’t be in the office until tomorrow morning, but AJA, the limiter is huge!! Nice job, and thanks!

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for gettin back to me again.

    I FINALLY solved the problem.
I had to install Bonjour for Windows XP from the Apple site.

I was up and running in about 5 minutes after that!
The link is below for anyone trying to print via Airport from WindowsXP (iMac Intel)

oh yeah….drivers!! I’m so spoiled with the “it just works” Mac. It’s a new printer, so I have the install disk. I’ll give it a try.
But I thought at the very least Windows would see something.

Thanks, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Same story with all of these new machine releases. Workaround-hell!!
    We’ve all been there.

All I can say is I hope when everything is finally hammered out AJA will post a working config(s). And when FCP6 comes out Christmas Day, we’ll do it all over again. 🙂

I’m with Bob, Mid-2007 may be a good time to upgrade. I don’t have time to be a guinea pig this year.

Good Luck to everyone who takes the plunge…looking forward to the reviews.

  • Hi Bob…Love your posts, and I come from the world of broadcast, so don’t jump down my throat with this comment. FCP scopes are actually very accurate if your system is setup correctly. Yes, ext. scopes should be used, and if you’re doing broadcast, its a no brainer…. but for people who can’t afford the $5000 Final Touch system, or a high quality $10,000 Tektronics setup, should take a little comfort in knowing that FCP will give you pretty accurate results…even as REFERENCE.

    Try B&H too. http://www.bhphotovideo.com
They have never let me down when it comes to next day delivery. (One caveat…I live in NJ, 20 minutes from NYC).
Either way, their service is great…but order before Friday afternoon–it is run by Orthodox Jews and they shutdown Friday afternoon and reopen on Sunday….so it doesn’t give you a lot of time to order.

I would also recommend the LHe. Component and SDI is built right into the card and Breakout Box. No need for converters and extra equipment. The I/O box is a plus if you can fit it into your budget. I run the LH and IO/LA on my Mac Dual 2Ghz. And, yes, minus the upconvert, its basically the same card.

  • [gary adcock] “the Kona LH does not do upconvert – you had to have done this is software which is why the aspect was off.”

Correct sir, this was a recapture. I took the clips offline and recap’d with the DV50 codec. This is when some of the clips were distorted.

Might have something to do with the timeline and less to do with AJA hardware.

    Hey Simmie,
Welcome to KonaLH! I made the same move late last year. The one thing you WILL miss coming from Cinewave is the input/output options.
If you can swing it, match the AJA IO/LA with the LH.

I’ve been running the LH for broadcast and corporate pretty sucessfully for a while. I also have all of the latest Apple updates for FCP Studio (5.0.4, not 5.1 universal), Quicktime, and OSX.

    Enjoy.

    Ron
