Thanks Scott.
Sony really fell off the map in the monitor department. I have PVM here that I swear by, and will use it until it dies. Its a shame they stopped making them.
Since I have two kids to put through school one day too…I’ll also hold off on the BVM.
I hear what you’re saying though…INPUTS is everything. Part of the reason why I’m leaning towards the LH1700. It has all the I/O’s my PVM has, plus SDI and HD.Peace

Thanks for the quick replies.
Walter: I can live with ‘really, really close.’ So Lumas are OUT. Got it. Just want to make sure I wasn’t missing any models. I’ve done some work at a HD facility that had a Luma monitor, and it wasn’t bad. But I don’t remember the model…. 10bit uncompressed HDCAM (blah, blah, blah)…so maybe that all made a difference. I dunno. About the Plasmas, I’d love to do it, but 1) they don’t seem to come in small sizes– I’m looking in the 15″ to 25ish” range for my space 2) Working in broadcast, I’m concerned about burn-in, and loss of quality over time. I’ve seen too many plasmas suffer. Granted they are on 24hours a day in some cases. Would you use a plasma for color correction??
As I mentioned, NAB is coming to town, I’m sure I’ll be able to touch a few of the Pannys before I decide.
Thanks

I still use it, although not as much since getting Combustion last year and AE 6.5 earlier this year. Very handy for quick roto and paint work, but honestly, as technology changes and the software is left in the dust, I’ve forced myself to become comfortable with AE. Its not too bad, but I’m still waiting for a similar write-on tool that Commotion has. Great for signatures and other stroke fx without having to play with masks!!!

When I stop reading messages like this, I’ll buy a MacPro 🙂
Been through enough growing pains in the Cinewave days with new Macs.Good Luck!

Make sure you’re running FCP 5.1 before you jump to Kona 3.1. If you’re running 5.0.4 like I am, 3.1 is useless to you right now.

Thanks Chris….goood to hear!
For the price, it almost makes you wonder why Medea and Huge don’t have similar products out!

My experience is to make a separate “Graphics” and “Audio Production” folder on my Media drives and drop files there. This makes project managment a little better when you start deleting project media and render files. Media like credit rolls, show opens, animations, AE comps etc… will playback with no problem from the RAID.

Yeah…ends in December. I was on the site last night. If my math is correct, FCP6 won’t be out until ’07 if this promotion runs until December. We usually get Christmas gifts from Apple!! Thanks for the advice, I’ll upgrade next week.
