Sad but true. I’ll look on Apple forums. Thanks.

I’ve had similar problem. I can put my serial number in to the CoreMelt manager and L&L works for a short while, but then reopening a project it’s telling me it’s on Trial again.
Months of back and forth with Coremelt got me nowhere, and I’ve given up using it – rather disgusted with their customer service considering I paid a decent was for their total bundle.

Will be staying clear of Coremelt in future after this experience.

November 23, 2024 at 5:52 pm in reply to: FCP 11 – Any Upgrade Issues?

No direct plug-in compatibility problems updating on a Silicon M2 running Sonoma, and ditto re comments above about the magnetic mask – really powerful and useful.

One personally very tedious and annoying thing is that we seem to have inexplicably lost ‘FatEQ’ as an audio plug-in option! Why?

I’ve used this endlessly in previous projects, so updating these to FCPX11 will mean I’m going to have to re-EQ anything I’ve used it on. I see there’s a new VintageEQ thrown in, but was it really necessary to lose FatEQ?

I normally try and update older libraries as long as there’s no issues, but this will be a real pain for me now, so will have to hang on to a previous copy of FCPX (for as long as it runs on future hardware) just to open pre-11 projects. Really annoying.

October 8, 2024 at 3:42 pm in reply to: Transparency lost when importing PNG into FCP

I was sent a logo to use as a bug for an FCPX project and I came across this issue for the first time.
Weirdly, changing Alpha to ‘straight’ in the Inspector still gave me a black screen, but when I choose ‘premultiply’, it’s working as it should. (The logo was yellow on black in the png file, and it’s the yellow bit I needed). When the clip was black screening I tried a luma keyer, and every variant of blend mode to no avail, but ‘premultiply’ has sorted it. Go figure!

EDIT: I spoke too soon. Although I thought I’d sorted it, when playing the project, it jumped back to black. I tried fiddling with other settings in the inspector, and messed with ‘Color Space override’, which had been set to none. Changing this to Rec709, and I got my transparent logo back, even when playing, and it didn’t seem to matter whether alpha handling was straight OR premultiply any more.

  • All Ben’s advice is perfect in general, but I’m pretty sure there’s an actual quirk involved too.

I always have FCPX set to import to Library.
I always wait until I get the ‘finished importing – eject card’ pop-up.

But the described issue has happened – once by chance a week ago, otherwise maybe a few months ago. I make a lot of shorts and my workflow is pretty repeated – there’s nothing I can pinpoint about the times it’s happened – ie not particularly big projects, not a different camera format etc. Just random quirkiness.

  • I’ve had the same problem a occasionally without any Dropbox factor involved.

I ALWAYS import to library, so there’s no way the ‘leave files in place’ would be ticked on.

After importing from a card from a Lumix GH5S M2, I came back to the project the next day and files are missing as per OP’s description. And like them, when I reinsert the camera card and try to relink or consolidate, I can’t because FCPX is telling me there’s nothing TO consolidate and the files ARE in the library. But if I remove the card, they disappear again.

My only solution has been to delete them completely while card removed, and then re-import.

It seems to be an occasional corruption quirk, and in my case nothing to do with DropBox. It just happened a few days ago, but before that maybe once every few months (I do a lot of short form projects, so possibly like 1 in 40 or so affected). I’ve never worked out what causes it – it seems very random and I’ve just used the delete/reimport workaround.

September 20, 2023 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Avoid the 10.6.7 Update! Most bug filled update so far!

Did 10.6.8 improve all these issues? – I have just seen that 10.6.9 is just dropping (with iPhone 15 extras and some new logs being the main changes). Do people still think sticking to 10.6.5 is best, or have the new bugs resolved? Any issues with third party plug-ins found too? I’m not updating Ventura 13.3.1(a) after reading elsewhere on this forum that several plug-ins died with the update.

If you want to turn your srt into titles there’s also Caption Burner from FXFactory

    https://fxfactory.com/info/captionburner/

I import my MacWhisper srt files into that and then mess around with all the setting s to make them look how I like. There’s quite a lot you can adjust to get them looking how you like.

OK it doesn’t mesh with FCPX, which was the original poster’s ask, but I have to say I’m blown away by the accuracy and speed of MacWhisper as a standalone transcriber for audio. I’ve thrown some poor quality audio at it, even with some jargon and names, and it’s done an amazing job. It also copes with stumbles, repetitions, ums and ers, etc, giving a nice clear representation of what was meant. The developer charges a one off very modest payment, and each update so far has seen great improvements. I like it a lot. Now, if only it could sync with FCPX and give us text editing like Adobe!!

May 22, 2023 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Missing Keyboard command to show/hide libraries

So your screenshot has helped some. I was looking for Show/Hide Library sidebar (which is what the tooltip calls it) but now I can see on your image that the Command Editor just calls it ‘Show/Hide Sidebar’, and yes it’s there, and seems to be assigned correctly. BUT I’ve noticed the keyboard layout looks like a different language, and maybe this is the problem. But now the trouble is I haven’t a clue how to change it back to an English QWERTY keyboard. It seems to be FCPX specific – as mentioned above, all keys work as expected in TextEdit, graphics apps, Word etc., so it’s not a system-wide setting. There’s an option in System Settings to customise a language setting for a particular app, but in my case it’s empty and FCPX isn’t mentioned.
So that’s a whole other can of worms, but in the meantime I’ve reassigned the Sidebar command and it’s working fine for me on a different key combination, so I won’t have to reset prefs especially as I’m in the middle of several projects and don’t want any other changes to happen right now.

Thanks as always to the kind folk who try to help out on this great forum.
