Try trans-coding the Mpeg clip via Mpeg Streamclip to a QT file that you can use in Final CutHere is the link to download, it is free.
Hope this helps

Yes, but the “variable speed” keyframes can be confusing and hard to work with when doing variable speed changes.
Another way you can try is to lay the clip on the timeline, set the initial speed you want (say 200%), razor blade the clip where you want to change speeds then adjust your speed on the second clip (to say 50%) then razor blade again where you want the speed to change again and adjust the 3rd clip back (to say 200%). Do it in just this order and DO NOT “roll the edit” after you make the speed changes or you will bugger it up.
You wont get those nice “variable speed ramps” you sometimes see out there but you usually want to do this sort of thing to music timing or a sound FX so it works nicely when it is all timed out well.Hope this helps.

IS there any way you can dub your bad” tape and try capturing from the new tape? I assume it is playing but FCP just doesn’t like it? I know broken timecode is a nightmare and this is what I used to do when I encountered this… before we went tapeless.

I have set up my “+” key (just to the right of my 6 key) to zoom in on my time line and my “-” key to zoom out.
I have also set up my “=” key (Above my the #8 key on the far right) with the “apply normalization gain” command as well as setting up my audio transition to “command-Q” because “option-command-t” just wasn’t working for me.
I found that I was constantly using these 4 commands while roughing out my time lines and they really streamlined my work-flow.Richard Cooper

May 20, 2010 at 10:18 pm in reply to: When I speed up or slow down a clip in the timeline, all the following clips are moved down or up the timeline. How do I prevent this?Hi Derek, Try opening up the clip you want to speed change from the time-line once you know how long you want it.(Double click) so it opens in the Viewer. In the motion tab > speed settings, adjust your speed with the key frames (NOT the %number) and you will find that this should do what you need without the annoying “Unable to complete command. A conflict occurred during trim opperation” warning. . (unless I completely misunderstood your question.)
Hope this helps.

May 17, 2010 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Discovery Channel’s Producers Portal…. Any experience? When I read the “terms” of submitting show “ideas” through the Discovery Producers Portal, it read to me (but I am not a layer) that you had to basically agree to give up your rights to your idea for them to even look at it. So essentially, they “could” take your idea and run with it and bypass you as the owner/producer completely. Didn’t sound like a good deal to me. But others may have more “hands on” experience with the Producers Portal.
Good luck!
