I am afraid that you need to have the entire “intact” BPAV file structure that is created on the SxS cards from the camera. Otherwise you will not be able to import the clips with Log and transfer. If you have the BPAV folder just point the log and capture to that folder and don’t go any “deeper” into it. From there Log and transfer should be able to read and import the files.
Hope this helps.

May 8, 2010 at 8:05 pm in reply to: EX3 (in camera) Downconvert vs Kona LHi DownconvertHello Martin,
I work with bot the EX cam and the Kona 3 and my first inclination would be to let the Kona do the down-convert. I have never tested this work flow (down-convert on input) but this would be the first thing I would try. Try a small test (both ways) and see which one looks better, my money would be on the Kona.
One caution… I have captured HD/SDI direct from my EX camera only one time, just recently, and it was only then that I found that even though I shot 1080/24p(23.98) on my EX the HD/SDI output was 29.97! I could not find an option to output 23.98. But unless you are shooting @24 this should not be an issue for you.I am sure once you try about 30 seconds of both work flows you will be able to make a decision on the best for your purposes.
Good Luck. Let us know what you find with your test.

Hi Nate,
Sounds like an issue for AJA Support. If you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling your Kona drivers and it still does not show up, you may have a bad card. This happened with my Kona3. Just wasn’t there.C
CAll AJA Support, give them your serial number and they will overnight FedEX you a new card. And if it is out of warranty, they will STILL FedEX you a new card!, you will just need to pay the shipping. Then they will need you to send in your defective card. Done. These guys are great! My Kona 3 card was purchased 2nd hand and arrived DOA and they STILL sent me a brand new Kona 3… I was floored!
Good luck!

If you are a prosumer and donn’t need to nessisarily deliver for broadcast then that opens up some more, less expensive options. The Black Magic IntensityPro card is, I believe, only about $300 and will give you real time output from your timeline via HDMI. This coupled with a consumer HDTV will at least give you an “almost accurate” monitor. If you have it professional probe calibrated (another $250) you will be close enough for pro-sumer work. So for about $1200 all in you have a nice setup. It really is about what you are selling to your customers. But to start out this might be a good option for you.
Computer screens are just not set up, and I believe they cann’t be, to give you an accurate broadcast spectrum. The gama and color spectrum just wont allow. Unless you are looking at an HP DreamColor but then you are spending a lot of money again and have a lot of caviats there as well.
Take a look at the BM IntensityPro. It might be what you need and can afford.
Good luck on your quest
please excuse any typos as I am typing this on my iPhone!

Really, the only accurate way to do this is still monitoring your timeline through a true broadcast i/o card from your edit suite into a properly calibrated broadcast monitor… whether it be a CRT or the trend now, to broadcast “class 1 LCD” monitors such as the FSI line or the Panasonic Pro plasmas.
“What is true? Is color truth subjective now?”
Subjective?, possibly, yes…. but it still needs to be within the broadcast standards which is impossible to meet when flying blind.
The i/o cards range in price ($300 to $3000) as well as quality but in my opinion Kona cards are the top of the heap followed by Black Magic and Matrox. There is no way to properly monitor your signal with a computer monitor fed from a computer video card. Just not possible to do it accurately.
There is a TON of very good info on this subject over on the Apple Color forum. Just a warning though… don’t ask how to do it on your computer monitor, they are quite sensitive to this subject and are not shy about telling you about it 🙂
If you are delivering for broadcast, an i/o card and broadcast monitor is a critical to professional edit suite. Just part of the cost to do the job right. Good Luck!
Hope this helps.

Hi, I found this on the Apple discussion forums…
“Since 41 is a Finder error, you might try removing ‘com.apple.Finder.plist’ from the Computer-> Users->your name->Library->Preferences folder. If you don’t feel comfortable trashing it, just move it to the desktop. Do a restart, and a new file will automatically be created.
Or, before doing that, try another Software Update. It could be you stopped doing the Update too soon, since some files have be installed in a set order. So even after installing a long list of updates, Software Update needs to be selected again to check for updates to the updates just installed.”
This solved the problem for this particular user.
Hope this helps.

Boy, I am not sure what causes corruption the FCP project file. Honestly, I have not, “knock on wood”, had this happen in a really long time. I would say since my upgrade to 6, a couple of years ago.
My Project files can commonly reach 15 or 16 MB so I dont think a bloated project file is the problem. What version of FCP are you running and what ver of OSX and processors do you have? Maybe, if yours is older (V5 of FCP or pre intel MAC?) , that may be the issue but really I just don’t know.
Maybe someone else here can give you a better answer.Richard Cooper

Hi Tucker,
You have a corrupted project file. Sorry… it will probably NEVER open. BUT just go to your autosave vault and start opening the projects starting with the latest saved until one opens, then do a save as and overwrite your bad project file, this should get you up and running again.
Hope this helps

I found this on Squared5.com. It fixed my Mpeg2 playback issue when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I am sure that Apple does not want you to know this as they want to sell you the Mpeg Playback component for $20! Anyway, It worked for me….
If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder’s Go menu > Go To Folder… command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.
Hope this helps
