    Hi,

I’m panicking slightly as I have just returned from Thailand having been away from my computer and hard drive for 5 months. I have tried to open up any off my projects in final cut pro and it won’t open any of them – it just says general error (41). Can you think what this might be? something in the settings? Surely the files can’t be corrupted as they havn’t been used?

    Many Thanks

Hi, I found this on the Apple discussion forums…

“Since 41 is a Finder error, you might try removing ‘com.apple.Finder.plist’ from the Computer-> Users->your name->Library->Preferences folder. If you don’t feel comfortable trashing it, just move it to the desktop. Do a restart, and a new file will automatically be created.

Or, before doing that, try another Software Update. It could be you stopped doing the Update too soon, since some files have be installed in a set order. So even after installing a long list of updates, Software Update needs to be selected again to check for updates to the updates just installed.”

This solved the problem for this particular user.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the idea but unfortunalty it didn’t work, it still comes up with general error (41) when i try and open any HD material. Do you think the problem is with my external or with final cut? and can you think of any other solutions to this?

    Many Thanks
