Thanks again for posting, Steve. I have not yet done a test on my 7D but I assume that it will be the same… unless there is a way to bypass the AGC.

Hi Steve, I just watched (listened) to your test audio on Vimeo and I have to say…. The audio is terrible and I CAN hear the “breathing” of the noise floor raising when you stop talking and lowering when you start talking. It is quite plain to my ears. But I come from an audio background originally and I am listening in a professional audio monitoring environment, so your mileage may vary… To me this audio is completely unusable and a great argument why NOT to use the on camera audio of these cams.

This is the size of the front of your lens, so it will depend on what lens you want to put the filter on. Should give you the mm size right on the front of the lens….. I believe.
I would also invest in a ZFinder Pro, rails and a follow focus. Using only the LCD is difficult at best when pulling focus while shooting.

So Richard H, HD monitoring while shooting IS possible on the 7D? But not the T2i? This is a biggie for me and I have not seen a definitive answer. Thanks!

Hi Rachel,
Definitely interlacing you are seeing. It should look fine playing on a TV from a DVD but not on a computer monitor… if all things are correct.
You say “…when I watch the video on TV it almost unbearable to watch because the lines are so bad….”I think Dave L. nailed it. If you are seeing these on a standard TV, playing from DVD you may have a field dominance (Field order) issue. The 1080i time line wants upper fields first and your HDV footage wants it lower first you will have problems…. Once you do what Dave suggests and change the field order you should see this problem go away.

In the sequence settings, in the general tab, make sure that the Anamorphic 16:9 box is checked.This should fix the problem for you.

Hi Rachel,
What flavor of HD footage are you working with? (HDACAM, P2 DVCPROHD, XDCAM,DSLR, HDV, Flip cam?) and how are you getting the footage into your edit suite? If you are trans-coding from P2, SxS or DSLR to another format there may be a problem with your workflow, if you are capturing through a Kona or simmilar i/o card there could be other issues.
Give us your work-flow, I am sure someone cam pinpoint your problem.

So Andrew, have them give you a DV file and your off. Otherwise an upgrade to FC Studio would be your best bet.Sorry there is not better news.

I suppose if you cant open it up in QT and you cant transcode it with Mpeg StreamClip,It sounds like you may have a corrupted file. Have them encode you a new file. I would stay away from Mpeg though… ProRes wont work either as you need Final Cut 6.0 minimum.
Try having them give you an QT H.264 or a DVCPRoHD.The FCE manual says you should be able to edit any video codec you can open in QT on YOUR MACHINE. so start with those.
