Well, guys, I appreciate your input and I have tried all of these things that you have thrown out. Thanks, I now found that the Renders from AE as an SD config works like a charm…BUT the HD renders do not work as a charm at all. I do not know what the heck is going on.
Now what I also found was that if you export of out FCP, the files acting up, and send them out as a Self Contained Movie, they come back in just fine. WHAT A STINKING WORK AROUND! I sent a message to the Apple ProSupport and asked them to address this issue and have an update for all of us. Even Called and told the guy over the phone to put the word in.

Thanks, I will definitely let you guys know if there are any other problems I am running into…well, actually the whole “OPEN” timeline running different qualities (HD, SD, PAL, NTSC) is starting to act up as well…BUT that is a whole other thread battle on its own.

Thanks again – and more input from anyone else would definitely help as well –

There is another section for capturing HDV. One is Apple’ HDV Standard which utilizes Capture NOW, and the other should say like Sony HDV, which gives you the ability to create in and out points to log.

look in to your Audio/Video Settings. under the FCP name on the menu.

Also, are you going for an Answer only interview?

Because, If you were going back and forth, you can also shoot with two cameras (over the shoulder shots) and cut between the interviewee and interviewer.

Other than that…Yeah I find when I cut an interview down the middle, that a dip to color works well.

June 19, 2007 at 7:50 pm in reply to: YOUR OPINION

I appreciate both of your inputs. So, if I were to go with the Octo… what would be a good amount of RAM to move up on from a Quad G5 with 8GBs? Again I am looking to cut rendering time.

I have found that my G5 Quad can render a 20-25min HDV project for SD set in about 45mins to an hour. I hope to reduce that time to at least 30 mins. the same kind of project.

Also, I use AE and CS3 a whole lot as well. So, these things are what I am going for…and if the price is high for just a small change between each, I would go for the lower cost.

I am not able to test this anywhere either (not an Apple Store or a company in town) …another reason why it is taken some hard thinking to decide.

but thanks again for your input.

June 19, 2007 at 3:08 pm in reply to: HELP! AE not opening.

I Appreciate that Kevin. I did throw away the Preferences for AE…but I forgot about the quicktime plugins (THEY WERE THE CULPRIT!!!) I had downloaded a WMV plugin that just doesnt like any of my editing software (AE, FCP,…so on)

    THANK YOU AGAIN.

    Take Care

  • I have found that myself. It is the fact that AE 7 is created for PPC and Windows not for MacIntel. I also tested this with CS 2 and CS 3. BIG DIFFERENCE ON RAM HOGGING. So, wait till the New AE comes out (I believe in July’s END). Then compare the Mac vs PC. I at the moment went back to my PPC to work on AE.
    Not to get off subject:
But, Have you experienced AE crashing on your MacBook Pro? I have and I have had to install it again.

I run FCP 5.1 on a Quad 2.5 G5 with a Kona LHE and Sony M15U HDV deck…. Still pops up huh? … hmmm… have you checked the tape to make sure there are no timecode breaks on the tape? I actually found that on some of my HDV Tapes. And yes I agree with Jerry…HDV is very unstable.

  • You would need to create a merged layer for FCP to read the file. So, Make your PSD file with a Blank layer (to hold the Alpha) and a Merged layer(s) (if you have more than one layer you want to bring in) then in FCP import the PSD. You probably know that it comes in like a Nested Sequence. Then just either copy and past the different Layers into your working sequence or take the Nested sequence. thats it.

    Hope that helps
