WOW guys thanks …
The reason I felt it didn’t work was because when we first hooked up the computers and used just the networking of OSX Leopard … the footage was running super slow and drop frames were everywhere.
I will try these things here and let you know what happens.
THANKS A BUNCH … by the way we do also have a 2TB XRaid as well.
what are your thoughts on the eSATA cable drives … should I upgrade the card to that over Firewire 800 ? ?
Thank again.

January 8, 2009 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Any issues working in FCP 6 with a 5.1.4 project? It’s All good… Nick
But really … for some reason my FCP does make a copy. I do not know if it is a setting or what. I have had 6.0 since it’s release date. And it was an upgrade from the previous 5.0. What happens with me it when I open a project made in version 5, it states that the FCP Project was made in another version and if you want to convert it for use on the Version 6. Of course you say yes. Then when I save the project like normal (File > Save) it thinks its a new save and you rename it and save.
So, If my FCP is acting quirky with this … then I am okay with this quirky-ness. If yours doesn’t do it. Sorry to mislead … and yes I then agree you open it then SAVE AS a new name for Version 6 to see.
Take Care and no hard feelings,

I do alot of old to new FCP Files from other editors who only capture footage for the company I work for. We edit and the capture with Older versions of FCP on Site.
So the good thing is your 5.1version file will not be harmed and a copy will be make to work with the 6.0 Version.

Yeah the settings of your timeline would help determine what you are running into since you are using HD footage and None HD Footage on the same timeline.
Just a suggestion, If you’re final Output is SD DVDs, I recommend you downconvert and capture the HD footage to a cropped SD QT file. Lots easier at the end.

If the tapes don’t play in the camera either … it would mean your head on your camera’s have gone broken (Clogged as the techs call it)
I just ran into this problem.
HERE IS MY SOLUTION I FOUND:

Good luck, and hopefully this is not your issue … Because it does take time.

I go a bit of a different route … Though the ones stated already are great way from Tim … I just find the other route as a different alternative.
What I do is take a COPY … YES COPY of the original Edited Timeline and Set the Media to Offline. Then go back to the deck set it to BATCH CAPTURE the whole Timeline in DVCAM Crop Mode. This way your are DOWNCONVERTING HARD WARE WISE. I found that to be a faster solution and the hardest thing to do it reload the tapes. Once it is all said and done. The clips will be SD Formated and ready for export like normal. You might have to also change your Sequence settings to the Standard Format as well.
Good Luck,

Thanks alot everyone …
I have used the Flip4Mac but … for some reason it hasn’t done anything for me … I may have the wrong software from them.
I haven’t heard of Episode Pro, So I will look into that. Thanks.
There is actually a new Cleaner 6.5 from AutoDesk that does convert the files … but the trial I downloaded to see if it works doesn’t let me try a WMV 9 file. Err…
As for a windows computer … we don’t have a windows computer in our studio that is capable of converting software over. We are mac guys really. The windows computers we use are bare bones for all of our paperwork and filing of client costs.
Back to Episode Pro, is there a trial on their site for me to see? … maybe I should look …
Thanks again. If there are any other suggestions that would be great. All of your suggestion are fully thankful

It is a process to Burn CopyRighted DVDs.
I asked a duplicator in my area about my issue (same as yours) and this is what he told me:
All programs that state the button for CSS or Macrovision need to go through a process.
You would lay the program on a DLT (digital Linear Tape) and from that DLT a what a duplicator considers “a Glass Copy” of that will then be added to a Particular “DVD-9” with the Copy Protection.
So, without that hardware and know-how it isn’t as easy as pressing a button on the software … I hate that too … and they don’t state that in any of the manuals for any of the software. (DVD Studio or Adobe Encore) (and so on.. .)
The process if you still want it, will set you back about 150-200 bucks depending on the duplicator.

I am sorry to ask … but are you capturing your footage to an external Medium?
If you are: capture a minute or so to your Main computer hard drive … if it works your External is acting up. This happened to me when my XRaid had an update and the system admin changed some things.
Also … if you are going to an external portable drive … are you capturing via Firewire 400 or 800 … funny thing … My external drives that had footage from a 400 firewire cable starting acting up after the FCP 6 update. Look into that as well.
Also … you said you had a TB … if that is internal (I assume 2 500 GB) … try capture to the other hard drive in your computer.
IF ALL OF THIS IS STILL ACTING UP … do you have another computer, perhaps a friend who has FCP that you can test is your software is acting up? … If not visit an Apple Store and test it on one of their computers … I did … you get props for knowing the software … (boost your stress a little) … put on a smile.
another thing to look into is when you are capturing HDV … have you tried turning off the check box that states make a new clip at every stop? If should be in the capture window. My capture NOW setting started acting up with that turned on when I first started capturing HDV.
Good luck at finding your culprit.
