The memory thing helps a whole lot…don’t ask why. I had the same problem with Keylight on my AE and when I droped how much memory it was aloud it rendered fined. I keep my around 512-1GB…. very wierd. Hopefully an update will occur to fix this issue.

I saw skipping only on the computer monitor (capture window) not the preview monitor from the deck.

    what are your thoughts?

  • BUT I also agree that if you are freelanceing/ out of school/ and making good cash, that you should follow the rules and buy a new Retail version for yourself. Plus in the long run the upgrades are much cheapier….

    After reading the posts…

I have 5.1 and have upgraded to FCP 6 on my Mac Book Pro. So, yes it works. Plus, Rosetta is there if you just loaded it to try it out.

  • That is true. Academic versions are there to teach you. And lots of schools are now sending their graudating classes with Academic versions of Software to Intern (Both unpaid and PAID) to better grow their skills in the field and on their program.

That’s how it was when I graduated from design school.

FCP will take psd files just fine. What you would have to do is have each layer flatten (I recommend you save a seperate psd file for this). FCP only sees the layers of PSDs not the effects (like bevel, drop shadow, etc) so when you flatten each layer seperately it will go to FCP fine.

NOW in FCP you will have to check your timeline settings. In the Brower, right click (ctrl+Click) your sequence. Go to settings and there you will find the timeline settings, and compression. Change those (if you would like) to a setting that better runs your pics. I found a few that work well. OR you can save your PSD file to have the same settings as your timeline.

Well, Hope that helps. Have fun with PSDs running in FCP.

Thats a good idea, actually letting the mac mini capture footage, which is fine. I have actually seen some people use the mac minis only for that purpose. I am looking to use the mac minis for a Render Farm set up, for faster fenders for my MacPro here at the office. I hear its a promising idea.

But anyways, Good luck with your edits, and I do not for see any problems for what you are going to use the idea for. And yes you are right the Box saying, can not work with an integrated graphics card is only for motion purposes, since it utilizes the graphics cards with a 128 memory or better.

Have you tried Forcing Capturing, Just do a straight CAPTURE NOW. Or have you tried Capturing as if it were a non-controllable device?

I have ran into these issues, and I still do … Check your Capture Settings. Check to see if you are capturing in DF or NDF. That does make a difference on the capture (FOR SOME REASON).

Are you capturing through a Deck or through your Camera?

I am having the same problem as you are … I have been capturing with different mediums as well. Like Beta SP, HDV, DVC Pro, and Standard DVCAM.
1st) I found that my deck was the first problem. So I would check the settings there first.
2nd) I found the Settings from FCP were problematic, check your Audio Video Settings and make sure the settings are similar between the timeline and capture sets.
3rd) How did you capture your footage? Through Firewire or through the Black Magic Card?
I found that the quality is better and these jumps dont appear through the card. I personally have a AJA Card, but I have troubleshooted the Black Magic before with the same issues.

DONT SETTLE WITH PROBLEMS, AS THEY BECOME MORE OF A HEADACHE LATER!

    Good Luck with you,

To tell you the truth Almost all Video must be captured by Firewire. Reason: Well, Firewire is a constant connection where USB is not, So video is able to be sent to the computer with less errors in the end capture.

I would recommend a Firewire Hub. Also, The only Hard Drive Camcorder that I have seen that shoots and captures well through firewire is the JVC camcorder. It has a dock that has firewire output. I think since most of the Hard Drive HD Camcorders are Windows based with their own software they only made a few that connect firewire.

Good Luck with your editing and decisions for a good suite.

Thanks guys, I didnt think about changing the HDV to something else. I will definitely try that.

Now the answer to your questions Darby:
    1) Yes I have problems playing them in FCP they say that the footage has encountered a drop frame and must be set to the correct frame rate. Which it is.
    2) No the footage doesnt need to be rendered, FCP actually sees it as a perfectly fine graphic for my timeline. No render needed.
    3) My QT actually plays the graphic just fine with no hiccups and at the HD resolution. Pretty nice in QT.

Now, I am still having problems with it, But I decided since my clients are getting SD DVDs anyway and I converting my edits to SD size, I have exported the graphics to the SD compression. They now work awesome like that in FCP 6. But hope fully in the future Apple will update any issues like this one.

    Thanks guys,
