I’m one of the dinosaurs still battling on with SD! Our company films on Digbeta and due to the amount of rushes we digitise I choose to offline using the Blackmagic photo Jpeg codec (very good pictures at something like 3.5mb/s so stacks of storage).

Problem is the playback from the timeline suffers a very annoying periodic freezing of the image (not the audio). I’ve looked at all the settings and can’t see anything obviously wrong. The clips play perfectly from the browser.

Do I cure this by purchasing more memory (currently 2gig)? Or does it look like a setting problem? Or do I just have to live with it?

    Thanks.

I am having the same problem as you are … I have been capturing with different mediums as well. Like Beta SP, HDV, DVC Pro, and Standard DVCAM.
1st) I found that my deck was the first problem. So I would check the settings there first.
2nd) I found the Settings from FCP were problematic, check your Audio Video Settings and make sure the settings are similar between the timeline and capture sets.
3rd) How did you capture your footage? Through Firewire or through the Black Magic Card?
I found that the quality is better and these jumps dont appear through the card. I personally have a AJA Card, but I have troubleshooted the Black Magic before with the same issues.

DONT SETTLE WITH PROBLEMS, AS THEY BECOME MORE OF A HEADACHE LATER!

    Good Luck with you,
