November 13, 2012 at 3:35 pm in reply to: FCP: 1080/25p timeline for Canon 1080/25p and Panasonic 1080/50p material? As you can not record p25 on the PANA, record p50.
Convert both footage to Prores and edit on a p25 sequence.

As Michael say, TC can be recorded on audio tracks on tape, but no idea on how to get that done in FC, neither I understand what’s the posterior utility of that TC.
The only application I know able to read that AUX TC recorded in a QT audio track is “Videotoolshed”.
https://www.videotoolshed.com/products
250 bucks.
As Michael suggest, ask your client what a heck hi is trying to do with that.

November 13, 2012 at 1:22 pm in reply to: I am trying to import video from a tape deck but optimize media is not highligted as a choiceWhen working with tapes, there is not better option than working “native”, so with the original stuff, as it is on tape. No need to optimize nothing.
On editing can be interesting to export to a higher quality codec.

November 13, 2012 at 5:31 am in reply to: Clips keep crashing FCP 7 and all others. Are they corrupt? As Dave mention, spanned clips, or that you haven’t waited enough between you hit STOP and REC again in camera.
This causes files corruption.

[John Mark] “The original files were converted from AVCHD to MP4 from using Clip Wrap 2 “
Wrong workflow.
Just must convert the files to Prores.
Any flavor of h264 & Mp4 are not supported by FC.
Anyway, your psot is confusing. The title mention FCPX, the you talc about FCP. The “legacy”?
FCPX should manage H264 native.

Now with the AVCCAM installed you can open the files with QT and convert them to Prores.
MPGstreamclip batch export should be Ok.
You can also try ClpWrap.

[Louise Macaulay] “Log and Transfer doesn’t recognize the AVCHD/MTS files from this camera, and I’m not having any luck finding a plugin or converter or any info from Panasonic about this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!”
Are you running L&T on the camera card, or a copy of the original file/folder structure?
L&T needs all that to work. Doesn’t work on the bare MTS files.
If you don’t have the original folder, you can try download the PANASONIC AVCCAM QT Component.

[olaf steel] “Also worth noting is that I will want to relink to the original raw media when the project has been edited. So I need a way to do the above, while keeping the original metadata intact.”
Will your multicam project allow you to re-link to a footage with different specs?

[Magnus Monfeldt] “However, none of the suggestions generated a video smaller than 100mb; Rafaels suggestion on lowering the data rate gave me a blurry 310mb file “
Obviously you haven’t fallowed my instructions.
(437K x 60 x 23)/8 = 75.382K = 75MB.
That’s the video size for the specs I gave you, and with that data-rate you get an MEGA-CRISP video at the requested size.

[olaf steel] “is there any way to quickly/easily/using as little hard drive space as possible, convert the DVCPRO footage to ProRes 422? Preferably within FCP using the Media Manager tool?”
Lie all the DVCPro stuff on sequences and use MM.
I would better try MPGStreamclip batch export. Will keep the original file names.
