Transcode the H264 stuff to Prores.
The DVCProHd stuff should work OK on the Prores 1920×1080 sequence.

Nattress, ReVision FieldsKit are very good.
Jess Deinterlacer (free) is said to be very good too.
The FCs default de-interlacer and QT deinterlacing, are to be avoided.

Bluray is around 35.000Kbps.

Sorry, i thought you were getting bad quality on your AIC master from FCE.
When making your H264, set alway “Key-frames: AUTO”, so the application will put the optimal number of Key-frames. A key-frame every 25 frames, as you have set, is is very little to keep to keep some quality.
Select “Multipass’, and set the data rate as high as possible.

Hi Simon,
FCE converts all the stuff to AIC, which is a very compressed codec.
There is not much you can do to improve the quality due to the high compression.

MP4 is not supported by FC.
Convert it to any editable codec.
Prores is the best option.
If you have already made all the editing, change the sequence codec to Prores and set render in YUV.

For that picture size you can get very good quality while keeping the file size smaller than 25MB.
Try some 2.400Kbps data-rate, “Key Frames: AUTO”, Multipass.

The higher the frame rate, the better. That’s a rule of thumb.
The only reason to shoot lower frame rates are economic, technical or esthetic.

You can try as well to convert the camera files to AVI/Animation. Then the files could be rewrapped as QT/Animation. Rewrapping is fast and doesn’t degrades the picture.
Other solution would be to export the movie as an stills sequence.
