Hi grafxflow,
By any chance are you making your Ilustrator in CMYK? Are CMYK the .png that you can not import?
FC do not open CMYK files. The same happens with any .tiff, .psd or whatever graphic that you want to bring to FC. All must be RGB.

I think that the electronic conponent are also important. Think about two PCs with the same specs (Processor, RAM etc) they may work the same, but the one with a better electronic SHOULD last longer and have lest troubles. About monitors I think can be the same. Not much technical answer, but I think in the long run, quality is cheaper.

There is a tutorial about how to make that in RIPPLE TRAINING. “Creating Scrolling titles in FCP” by Steve Martin. The system is quite easy, just typing an axterix in bettween the text. If they don’t have it any more tell me and I’ll send you a pdf.

Hi Katherine:
To try to convert SD to HD, 29,97 to 23,98 and get a good deinterlacing all toguether in real time is a hard job. Try Compressor or Shake and be ready for a long waiting time if you wont to get a good up-converstion.

Hi Ming,
I don’t know how its works Nattress Standar convertion for that task, but Nattress got some other de-interlacers in the FilmEffects pack.
TMTS its works fine if you set it at 100%. There is another application that you can download from the web: JES deinterlacer. I’ve never used but I read in this forum good things about it.

As Ed says you can use Compressor. In the “Video Format’ window set the field dominance of your original footage. Them set “Frame control’ to CUSTOM. In the same window set “Output fields” to PROGRESIVE, and set the Deinterlace to FAST, BETTER or BEST. (You don’t need to change the Resize Filter neather the Retiming control).
If you got SHAKE you can get it done too. I think Shake and Compressor use the same filters for this purpose.

When you export from MPGStreamclip choose 8b Uncompressed or any other hight quality codec. Don’t export as DV.

Just double click the clip in the time-line and get them open in the brownser window. Open the motion tab and set Scale to 100.

Hi Tarik,
SHAKE is specially designed to work with the MAYA and the 3DStudioMax files. Even recognice the z channel of these files. Just bring your MAYA stills to SHAKE and export them with a QT codec that support alpha channel (With Annimation i.e.). Them bring your .mov to FC and done.

When you make an MPG2 you get a legal PAL or NTSC by clamping the hights and the lows of the video signal. You should better set the legal levels in FC, where you can control the process, and feed Compressor with an already legal film.
