If you go to make CC set the sequence to 8b MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

But , if you are using interlaced footage, before to make the “freeze frame’ put a “de-interlacer’ filter and you will get rid af the motion-blur produced by the interlacing. Your stills will look much, much better.

Hi Will,
The first thing you must do is to know yourself the field order of your footage and set it properly in the FC brownser. Interlaced footage should never appear “NO SET”. Unless you had deinterlaced it previously or you had captured with the wrong order, should be “lower first”.
When you drag a “lower-first” clip to a “Upper-first” time line (or the opposite, an “upper-first” clip to a “lower-first’ time-line) FC sts a “Shift-fields” filter in the clip to read the clip properly. BUT IF YOU ARE USING A BLACKMAGIC CARD the BM do the same by itself shifting the field order. So we got the field order changed twice and the final field order is WRONG. You must take out the “Shift-fields” set by FC and let the BM card do the job. At least this is what happens to me. I run FC 5.0.4 and I’ve got a BM SD.

I think to be using Rosseta it can make a big difference. About how to keep your Mac_FC running well, have a look to the LAFCUG and Ken Stone web sites. They’ve got everything.

If you had exported interlaced from LiveType, when you reposition you must do it an even number of pixels up or down. If you export progresive you can set them whrere you want.

The matter is to let a certain room so the lower quality DVD player can read without jumping the image. (When I make a DVD with too high data rate my chines DVD player show and image every second while the audio keeps on playing).
About the cristal masters, they have the very MPG2 file that you had got with Compressor. The imformation inside is the same but its seems that are easier to be readed than the DVDs that we get burned in our Macs.

Whenever I export to Compressor from the FC time-line, Compressor re-render verything. It doesn’t matter if everything has being rendered before. If i send a refference movie which has been rendered, Compressor do not render again and work faster. Anyway I stoped send refferences movies since I had a look to these pictures:

PS: I’m working with a G5 2x2Ghz, and with FC 5.04. and I’ve got the MPG2 exporter in FC (QT Conversion) and in the QT player. -
The easiest way to make a standaed VCD (Compressor can not make it because can not make .mp2 audio and mux it) is with Toast Titanium. Just set it up and drag your .mov.
I live in a country in Asia and very often I see VCDs with amazing quality (In fact all the Hollybood-Bollywood-Hong kong movies are distributed like that). I’ve made few with my mac but I’ve never been happy with the result.

Hi,
Use MPGStreamclip but export as Unc 8b, not as DV. from a DVD player, through FireWire, you can not capture nothing because you get a MPG stream, not a video signal.
