Sure, you just need to output in a QT format that matches your FCP timeline or as a series of sequential stills such as a sequential Targa (.tga) files.

February 26, 2007 at 8:30 pmI see on the maya in the image formats it has QT. So can you output the project as a QT file? Thank you for your help!!!

I don’t use Maya myself, but I often receive and incorporporate files created in Maya. I prefer that our artists send stuff as sequential Targa files for several reasons: 1) 32-bit tga files have an easy to use alpha channel, 2) if a fix is needed only the fixed stills need to be exchanged rather than an entire video file. You certainly can output as a QT however, but it might require installing additional codecs depending upon your original material in your FCP timeline. What are you cutting in FCP???

February 26, 2007 at 9:22 pmWhat I do is export targa sequences for each camera and then do my compositing in After Effects, which I’m guessing you probably have since you’re rolling with Maya. When everything is in AE, I add whatever glows, shadows, coloring, etc. that I might want and then export the composited footage out as one big 10 bit qt. That process cuts down on fcp render times and eliminates hassle of bouncing between lots of cluttery files in fcp.
The reason we avoid exporting qt from Maya is that if there’s a crash, we can pick up where we left off – and for the reasons the other guys mentioned.

February 26, 2007 at 10:53 pmShake supposedly integrates just like Motion or LiveType. Isn’t it EOL’d?

February 27, 2007 at 12:54 amShake will take pretty much anything you throw at it but compositing tends to work better with full quality image sequences, but it depends what you are working on.

Shake imports & exports QT with no problem. It even recognizes anamorphic formats, like DVCPro HD and automatically stretches them into a square pixel HD project.
