Hi Steve,
I’ll recommend you to have a look to the manual of MagicBullet (Redgiant Software). Even if you do not use that software its give you very interesting information about how to shoot with the idea of getting a film-like look. The manual of the Nattress Film Effects can point you too to few other interesting matters. You got few articles about in the LAFCUG and Ken Stone web sites and if you have a look in googles you will find a bunch of information.

Dear Mark,
I’m working with magnetoscopes since 1985, and except the 2 inches and the MII I think that I’ve been working with all the analog formats that has been in the market. And sorry to tell you that after SONY make that 1’C not any other analoge broadcast machine has been put to sell.
BCamSP has been the choice format for many reasons:
a) Working in Components you don’t need to filter the Chroma for Post-production.
b) You get rid of the “Color Framing” problem of the composite formats (the nightmare in PAL was double than in NTSC).
c) You don’t need a trolley to carry the VTR and you can record in a tape.
d)..
But if you read the specs (SMPT, EBU,..) of what was considered a Broadcast format, you will know that BCamSP it doesn’t because is not able to acommodate a full band-with video signal. The Color information is quite compressed. Much less if we talk about U-Matic even if we talk about the U-M High band.

The easier way, I think, is just to duplicate the same audio in another channel.

I think that if you open a sequence with the setting that you use for editing HDV and them you change the Frame Size should work.
I think you can get a MPG2 with those dimension with Cleaner. The problem is how to play it later. I don’t think QT can do it.

Hi Nick,
I completely agreed with David and Graeme. That BetaSP is more or less the same than DV is truth if we talk about image quality but they are two different worlgs. As Graeme says BEtaSP is a compressed format. Although has been for many years the proffesinal video standard, and many people call him Broadcast, BetaSP never has been a Broadcast format because it doesn’t reach the “Band-width” and the “Signal to Noise ration” that a Broadcast system has to acomplish. If I should capture some BetaSP footage I would do it as well in 10/8b Unc. And if I would be too contrained by the files size I would do it in DV50 that at least is a 422 format. Never in DV.

I would do it with MPGStreamclip. Export to QT (Not Export to DV where you get a DV Sequence) and set the audio Uncompress-48Khz. If you go to re-compress the video in any momment, choos a better codec than DV.
