Slight crosspost here since very few people seem to post in the compression forum.

I’m looking for ways to reduce the amount of staircasing in animated photos in FCP. The photos are being coaptured from Digibeta uncompressed via SDi on a Kond2. They look on on the timline but when subjected to MPEG2 compression via compressor they get lots of jaggies and look slightly soft. The pictures are together with video so simply deinterlacing them isn’t a possiblitiy. Any advice on preparing these images from rendering to make them look better?

“…when subjected to MPEG2 compression via compressor they get lots of jaggies and look slightly soft”

As viewed on external NTSC (or PAL) monitor? Or how?

Why you say that you can not de-interlace the pictures?

Because it’s mixed with video. it’d be possible but would either require me to deinterlace the video too or go shot by shot and find the pictures. This is one long clip off of a master not a finished sequence so that would take quite a long time.
