We regularly sync this, the Effects Presets and AME Presets (although the later is in ~/Library/Preferences/Common/AME/5.5/Presets) across our three seats of Premiere.

Are you using any monitoring hardware?
With previous Matrox drivers I found this to be the case quite frequently.

Is the lack of audio in the source monitor or on the timeline?
We have seen lots of instances where audio doesn’t play back in the source monitor (in our case mainly from HDV sources.) As soon as they’re popped on the timeline, the audio appears and plays back without issue.
When you do put those clips on the timeline can you at least see the audio waveforms or is there no audio attached?

Is it possible to setup your image sequence as an independant (new) sequence and then just replace the video with a nested sequence? I haven’t tried it but that’s what I might try off the top of my still-new-to-premiere head.

I think it depends which output module VLC is using for playback. Can you check? Try switching between the options to see if you can’t get it to match. It’s highly likely there’s nothing wrong with your video at all.

If you are repeating the same change over and over, you can set one image up the way you want with the Motion options, copy the image, then “Paste Attributes” to the rest of the images (all at once if they’re all selected) and they will all match up, following the settings of the first image.

As long as the disks in the array are not your OS disk, you’ll be fine. We have multiple “boot” partitions (to maintain compatibility with older projects) on separate boot drives running 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 on every workstation and any software RAIDs work fine across all of them, even though they were “fresh” installs.
The drives in the the array contain the information that they are part of a set and so you can take disks in an OSX software array to any OSX machine and they should work as a set.

Thank you Todd (and the whole team)… this is fantastic news as we have some major projects coming up and I was not looking forward to having to revert to some hybrid workflow for the dailies. The Matrox fixes also are very welcomed!
We have to say that while we’ve had push-back from editors who fear Premiere, that changes once they use it.

I think, like all things, it will come down to how you expect it to perform.
I recently completed a very short edit on a 2007 MacBook Pro (2.4 Core2) with 4GB of Ram and a slow 1.5Gb SATA drive. It was h.264 footage from a Canon DSLR at 1080p24 and while the rendering was painfully slow (final export) compared to the Mac Pros we use back at the office, it wasn’t abysmal and got the job done.
A current (modern) MacBook Pro should be more than fine. As you noted, a little more RAM and perhaps some kind of fast, large(ish) Thunderbolt storage array could really help out down the road but you’ll certainly have a workable setup with what you have now.
