I had a usage case where I thought Keyflow Pro would be ideal. Turns out it’s both very close and very far.
We have a need to have someone with little to no knowledge of Final Cut look at some B-Roll. I thought Keyflow Pro would be perfect, I could link to the media, create preview files and the user in question could connect to our office via VPN to review footage and tag/mark it up as necessary.
It turns out (was in fact hiding in plain sight), that “collaboration” really only means another user can see, download from, your library. They can’t work within it, tag footage, etc.
Too bad, that would have been the silver bullet for us.
Feature request logged – otherwise, it’s a nice app. A few quirks, but mostly straighforward and fairly nice, clean design aesthetical that’s approachable for non-editors.

Blackmagic’s own tutorials page is fairly comprehensive to newcomers and those looking to “readjust” their perspective from other node-based compositors.

It feels like post-santa just arrived and dropped off the replacement to Shake I’ve always wanted.

Too bad there’s no demo…
One thing that I couldn’t quite figure out is if it could import Final Cut’s own Libraries; lots of talk of exporting timelines, but what about shops that already have libraries with extensive keywording that want to import/export those assets and keywords to a shared asset library?
Maybe I’m just being myopic… product looks interesting regardless.

[Jeremy Garchow] “But the performance is better, and persistent masks are great. This much is true. QC doesn’t seem to be any better, sorry to say. It’s harder and harder to remain optimistic here. The sky is not falling, but dammit if it ain’t cloudy.”
I have to agree; short of a master audio buss we can use for edits that don’t need to go to Logic/PT/Nuendo – this seemed like the update everyone was looking for. The bugs, unfortunately, are showstoppers for some.
Why don’t they release a “FCP X” preview at NAB – work out the (hopefully tiny) kinks, and release a robust, stable product? #theyllneverlearn
When it’s working – man does it fly however. The output delay through AJA/HD-SDI has been halved as well which is great (possibly confirmation bias here).

While I’m suffering my own Panasonic-brand AVCHD 1080p30 issues, performance is much improved which is really fantastic because the workflow was already really quick in my opinion, it just used to involve a lot of waiting around for UI elements to redraw/refresh.
So yeah, it’s fast.

[Rich Rubasch] “Do the Red Giant plugins not work in FCPX? I think you can buy Denoiser II as a standalone. Works great in AE and FCP7.”
While Colorista III from the MB suite works in FCP X now, Denoiser II does not unfortunately.
