I think you are after a combination of flare, bokeh and anamorphic light streaks.
Google is always a good first stop, but this should help too

DV is not a broadcast format, especially if youa re going to do any colour correction or graphics

Last time I looked, NAS setups were not recommended by Apple. My NAS shared Drobo certainly isn’t up to editing.

ProRes 422 is a good tradeoff between size & quality. Depends though on the original format of the footage though and how much there is of it.

How about an image sequence? Tiffs or similar – they would be cross platform.
Then dump that in a Amazon S3 account.

Yes you can share out a disk via the ethernet connection. Has the G5 only got one ethernet connection? I forget. You will need a GigE router or another ethernet card in a spare slot. You are going to need some good storage attached though.

We do this all the time with Intel machines in SD for broadcast so it should work for offline material with a G5.

If you are green screening you will want the highest quality possible and definitely not H264. Would probably be quicker to dump onto a drive and bike/courier it.

Well it is quicker and also you can edit the Motion file from the timeline (it opens up Motion) without having to delete/export relink etc etc.
