Play and return to curson (like in Vegas?).
In FCP is there a ‘play and return’ as well as a ‘play/pause’. In Sony Vegas the return key allows you to ‘play/pause’ in the same way as FCP does with spacebar. The space bar in Vegas actually has a ‘play and return’ functionality. This plays from the cursor when spacebar is pressed and when spacebar is pressed again returns to where the cursor was.
What I am trying to do is to find the easiest way to find the frame I want to mark the in point. Sometimes it is necessary to play from the frame, tweak the in point and play again from in point (doing this as many times as is necessary to get the perfect frame). I personally prefer to do this before I put the clip on the timeline. I suspect I am not doing it the most efficient way in FCP but to demonstrate this I below list how I am doing it in FCP and how I used to do it in Vegas. This is to help me best use FCP, I don’t want to start a FCP vs Vegas fight;).
In FCP I would.
1) place cursor roughly where I think I want the in point
2) mark in point.
3) press spacebar to play from cursor and press it again to pause.
4) To get back to the in point I then have to press goto in point key.
5) I then use arrow keys to move cursor to refine edit
6) I then mark in point
7) goto 2 and repeatIn Vegas I would:
1) place cursor roughly where I think I want the in point
2) press space to play from cursor and press it again to stop and go back to where the cursor was.
3) I then use arrow keys to move cursor to refine edit
4) goto step 2 and repeat .Regards,
Ben
