I just onlined a 90 minute show and it went very quickly. Take your sequence and export edls. then import your edls and select recapture, add handles if you wish. FCP creates a new sequence and puts al the individual clips in a nice little bin. Sort the bin by reel numbers. Select all the clips from a given reel and hit batch capture. When that reel is done save your project and move on to the next one. There was over 800 edits from over 35 reels and the whole thing took just over five hours. Alittle convoluted I know. But saving after each reel prevented me from loosing anything in the event of a crash (didn’t have any) or other trouble.

  • I don’t see any mention of the new drivers supporting Kona 2 on Dual G5. Any word or can we officially mark Kona 2 as EOL.

The whole keyframe editor in FCP is not great. No copying or pasting key frames. No global moves etc. It hasn;t changed since its’ inception and likely won’t. Ever since motion they seemed to have forgotton about any future developement of the keyframe editor.

This is one of my biggest issues with FCP. Not only do the audio meters disable during capture but the timecode display disables as well. Don’t even get me going. Also during edit to tape functions I have no idea where my deck is. Totally unprofessional. You know what they say, “anything with “”pro “”in the name isn’t really pro” end of rant.

Or use quichtime pro, open them as an image sequence then render it to the codec of your choice. This way you have an actual clip to work with in FCP or any other app.

  • I find that one of the easiest ways to do this is to take the sequence, export a xml list. Then start a new project and import the xml and it makes a new sequence and a bin that has all your offline clips in it. Then batch away. This way your original project remains intact and you won’t make any mistakes that might muck up your original media.

  • I think Nick is onto something. I had the same problem once. Get info on the the clip and select format. Under alpha you can right click the different alphas.

    Good luck

Why not just take the 29.97 SD letterbox downconvert right out of the HDCam deck. most HDCam decks have this option, you just need to ste it up in the menus.
