I’ve used the BWF2XML tool from spherico.com with great sucess converting polyphonic broadcast wave files (.bwf) to quick time aif files and all the metadata and timecode comes across perfectly. Klause at Sherico provides excellent support as well.

  • I coudn’t agree with Arniepix more. Yes this looks interesting. Yes they have some solid people behind the project. But please, according to Mike at hdforindies.com they got over 100 $1000 deposits on the first day of NAB alone. I’m not saying that the camera won’t materialize, but for all of the hullabaloo, they are not even showing one frame produced on this camera. Are people really that desparate to buy a camera. Do I want to spend $17,500 to be a beta tester. All I gotta say is, boy the pressure is really going to be on these guys to pull this off. As far as a forum goes, that’s crazy.

Were the bwf files in .wav format? I would consider converting them to Quicktime files using BWF2XML from sherico.com. It’s a great utility and it preserves all the metadata. I’m doing a whole film this way and I am not having any problems. Most of these bwf files are all polyphonic (6-8) tracks each and everything syncs and plays fine.

Are all the audio and video clips the same length. If one of your audio tracks is shorter than the other or even shorter than the video clip it will end before the other one. Remenber when you merged the clips you did it from one specific point in each clip (in point, out point, TC).etc. Maybe that’s what happening.

March 24, 2006 at 9:02 pm in reply to: FCP versus Avid as regards audio with TC.

What format is the sound being recorded on. If they are using a Zaxcom Deva or similar with polyphonic BWF files BWF2XML works excellent to convert to multitrack Quictime files with all the meta data attatched. I’m cutting a film now that is using that format and the sound is great in FCP. Andreas Kiel at Spherico has excellent tech support for BWF2XML (not that you need much). I’m using the original files and will export an omf file for the sound guy. Our tests have been bang on accurate and have been in synch. No ned to reconform the audio.

Hey Rory how’s it going. I had this the other day and it turned out to be a bug on my AJA KOna 2 driver. Are you using firewire or do you have an i/o card? Any plans on visiting Toronto soon, are you going top NAB?
