Gosh, it’s tough to tell without seeing the project – you might want to call into support to have them solve this with you over the phone. You can reach them via email at support@borisfx.com – I’m sure they can assist you in solving the problem.
Cheers,
Peter.

August 26, 2009 at 10:44 pm in reply to: How can I get Boris Extruded Text to cast a shadow….Hi,
Well this feature, cast shadows, is not currently supported in the Mac version of the 3D Objects filters … but there is a workaround. You’ll need to do this:
• duplicate the layer with the 3D object
• position this below the original 3D objected filtered layer and above the shadow catcher layer
• precomp the duplicated layer
• set the duplicated layer to 3D by clicking on the 3D icon in the AE timeline for that layer
• the shadow catcher layer should also be a 3D layer
• add a light to the scene
• set the duplicated layer to cast shadows
• set the shadow catcher layer to receive shadows
• in the light, tweak the shadow options to obtain the desired resultIf you would like an AE CS4 project that better illustrates this, please email me at peterm@borisfx.com and I’ll send that your way.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Rick,
I’m not actually sure where you can find that – I suggest you send an email off to support@borisfx.com and one of the tech support gurus will be happy to assist you with this.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi,
Are you referring to the 1:2:1 deflicker option in the Boris Title Crawl/Roll filter? I just tried that with FCP 6 and enabling this function eliminated the crawling edges that I observed when I rendered without enabling the deflicker option. Are you seeing results that are different to this?
Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for sending the screenshots – they really help in our understanding of the result that you are seeing. I’m forwarding the images and description to engineering to see if someone knows why the text is appearing aliased and not as smooth as expected.
Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Gary,
You should first make sure that you are using the latest version of Boris RED, which is RED 4.3.3. If you are, then you should make sure that it is set to display the video from FCP – you can set this from within the RED interface by launching the plug-in from the FCP timeline and once you are in the RED interface, select preview>image>update source.
If this fails to resolve the issue please send an email into our support department – support@borisfx.com.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hmmm … you might want to go to the project settings pane by selecting Edit>Project Settings and click on the 1:2:1 Deflickering option to see if that helps. Note that you wont’s see a change until you close the Project Settings window.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Sean,
The text from RED should be razor sharp – are you generating raster or vector text? If it’s raster, try converting it to vector. You can do that in RED by clicking on the track type icon on the text track (to the left of the “Eyeball” icon) and setting it to 3D Line Art.
Hope this helps!

Hi Brandon,
Sounds rather odd alright and not the expected behavior. With a text track selected in the timeline, if you click on the face sub-track and make adjustments to parameters in the Controls Window the changes should stick. I’m not sure why they are not. Try double-clicking the top level text track – this action opens the text generator window. Then make sure that the text is selected in the text generator window and change the font – does this change stick?
Hope this helps,
Peter.
