Hi Sean,

BCC 6 should work in Premiere Pro 4.1.

I know that you had some trouble in getting this effect to deliver the result that you expected but you cannot expect a motion tracker to follow a pixel array without some degree of tweaking – even the most sophisticated trackers in the world need a little tweaking because no two clips are alike. Makes sense … right?

Go to the Preprocess group, enable the View Preprocess function by clicking on the checkbox (this is just so that you can see what you are doing) and tweak the parameters until the tracker successfully follows the pixel motion – this is how everyone does it. 🙂

Hi Alberto,

If you are on Windows:

go to c:\program files\Boris FX, Inc\Boris Continuum Complete AVX 5.0\BCC 16bit Dlls

then right click on the file that is in this folder, which should be labeled “BCC_16bit.dll”

then click on the Version tab in the window that appears and you should see the exact version number

If you are on Macintosh:

go to MacintoshHD/Library/Application Support/BorisFX/Lib/BCC5AVX/BitDepthSupport/

then click on the file BCC_Colors16bit.bundle and select file>get info and in the window that appears you should see the exact version number

Hi Erik,

Sorry to say that’s a mistake in the doc as there is no hardware test button in the FxPlug filters.

To solve the problem, you should:

• make sure you have the last version of BCC 5 or better yet use the BCC 6 version

• if you have After Effects, run the BCC OGL filter in AE and perform the hardware test by clicking the options button at the top of the filter, which pops up the OGL test window. If you click the Test Open GL Hardware button and it passes then it will enable use of the OGL filters in FCP. If it fails, you can manually enable the filter by clicking the enabled button in the pop-up

• check your system against the system requirements page on the borisfx.com website – if your video card is listed then the filters should work.

Once again, I suggest upgrading to the latest version for the best OGL performance but at a minimum, the filters should work on a MacPro system.

Hi Sean,

You might want to try the BCC Witness Protect filter – it was designed with exactly this effect in mind. You can select between a mosaic, blur, brightness/contrast and color tint. Most people use the blur or the mosaic effect. There are complete instructions on how to use the filter on our web site in the tutorial section.

Hey Sean,

Okay – so the easiest way to delete the thumbnails is to open the Library Browser and press the “u” key on the keyboard which toggles a switch and changes the state or function of the generate thumbnails button … it can be set to either generate thumbnails or ungenerate thumbnails. When you toggle the switch, the third button from the left will become raised and the icon for this button will display white (indicating blank) dots for the thumbs. Hover over the button with the cursor and you will see a tooltip that displays the text “Ungenerate Thumbnails.” Click on the button and all of the thumbnails will be wiped. If you are in a specific category then only the thumbnails in that category will be cleared when you click the button, and if you select the library name then the entire library of thumbnails will be cleared

Okay – so you’re using RED. Well once you enter the RED interface, click on the top track, which should contain the PSD file. Then twirl this track down by clicking on the disclosure triangle at the left of the track name and you will see additional tracks such as the mask track and the face track. Click on the face track and look in the controls window. You should see that there are options for handling alpha – the pop-up is labelled key. Make sure that this is set to pass alpha – if it’s set to “no alpha” change that to any of the other available options and you should be all set.

You would most likely have to download and install BCC (boris continuum complete) to use the Rays Textured filter on your system. You can download it for free from the borisfx.com web site – it’ll work without a watermark for 14 days in trial mode.

I just tried it and it worked fine for me. If you can tell me exactly what Boris filter are you using (and how you applied it) I’ll see if it’s something that I can replicate here. A few more questions for ya …

What version of P Pro are you using?
What version of Boris filters are you using?
Is this on WIndows or Mac?
