I have a Boris FX EPS extrusion.

How can I get it to cast a shadow onto a AE 3d object (the ground).

I have use comp lights selected and the light has shadows on.

    Hi,

Well this feature, cast shadows, is not currently supported in the Mac version of the 3D Objects filters … but there is a workaround. You’ll need to do this:

    • duplicate the layer with the 3D object
    • position this below the original 3D objected filtered layer and above the shadow catcher layer
    • precomp the duplicated layer
    • set the duplicated layer to 3D by clicking on the 3D icon in the AE timeline for that layer
    • the shadow catcher layer should also be a 3D layer
    • add a light to the scene
    • set the duplicated layer to cast shadows
    • set the shadow catcher layer to receive shadows
    • in the light, tweak the shadow options to obtain the desired result

If you would like an AE CS4 project that better illustrates this, please email me at peterm@borisfx.com and I’ll send that your way.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
