Hi Connor,

I may be missing something obvious and if so I apologize but what is the footage problem that you are trying to solve with the filter? I ask only because the image on the left of the screenshot that you provided looks fine, and is not suffering from any video-combing or interlace artifacts. If you are trying to simulate telecine pulldown, have you tried stepping through the timeline frame by frame while in side-by-side compare mode to see if the filter is affecting the clip?

I was using Vegas Pro 10d 64 with the BCC 64 bit filters and was seeing the expected result when stepping through the timeline with the effect. I selected the pullDownSimulator preset in my tests.

Hi Connor,

Try this:

• Apply the Deinterlace filter to a clip and go to the Video Event control panel so that you can access the filter parameters
• Click on the Compare Mode pop-up and select Side By Side from the list
• In the Preset pop-up, select the presets on-by-one and observe the results

Are you seeing any change to the image in the right of the split-view?

Hi Jean-Luc,

The RED 5 Keyframe Libraries should have been installed by the RED 5 product installer. If they are not being displayed in the Library Browser window, you can try resetting the directory.

• Go to the RED 5 Library Browser Window
• On the left side of the window, there is a pop-up button between the preview window and the list of presets
• Click on the pop-up button
• From the list that appears, select “Use Default Folder”

After you do this you should see a single item labelled “RED 5 Keyframe Library”. Click on the triangle to the left of this text to reveal the sub-directories that contain all of the Keyframe Effects.

Hi Guillaume,

I didn’t know that you were having problems saving projects in RED 5 … I see that as a very big issue. My first instinct is that you might have a permissions issue with your set up and that this would be something that our tech support guys could assist you in solving. What you are describing is an isolated incident as far as I am aware – we haven’t had any reports from users that have had trouble saving projects so I have to assume that there is nothing wrong with the software but rather the set-up. I’ll ask someone from support to get in touch with you to help with this.

The other issue that you describe is not a bug on our end, but rather a problem with regard to 64 bit versus 32 bit applications and Quicktime support. RED 5 64 is 64 bit all the way and doesn’t include support for the Quicktime 32 bit file format. It’s not something that we are dismissing however and we are working on a solution. When we will be able to make that solution available is unknown at this point but when that happens we will let you know.

So to answer your questions:

– When will it be possible to add an audio track for windows user? Will it be possible to add an audio track when using RED as a plugin?

• While we don’t have an exact date at this stage for adding scratch audio support to RED on Windows. It’s going to happen – we’re just not clear when that feature will be opened up on that platform.

• Audi in RED as a plug-in can only happen with host level media if the host passes us the audio channel. If that happens then we can provide host audio to the RED plug-in.

– Is it possible to implement the BCC beatreactor effect on Boris RED?

• I’ll take it that this is a feature request. 🙂 Hopefully yes, but no commitment as to when.

– Is it possible to use the same concept as the “NULL in After effect” in RED?

• You can use Containers as a Null effect. For instance, if you have 10 media tracks to which you want to apply a global parameter change, such as tumbling them all in 3D space by the same amount at the same time, then place all of the clips that you want to affect in a container and make the parameter change on the container instead of the track.

I am a little bit disappointed with the tech support as I inform them that I have a bug but no reply so far. I would expect a reply informing me that this bug (if it is) will be corrected or this is a Vegas issue.

• I’m assuming that you are referring to the issue that you describe below this text. I’ll look into it and let you know my findings. If support did not get back to you then it could be that they were busy helping other users who required immediate help with a more urgent problem.

It seems (at least on my “weak” system) that not all the effects are multithreaded. Each time I use 3D extrusion (text, spline,…) only 1 thread is using during render.

On the pros side, RED is a very good addition & integration to Vegas. It’s now possible to create more sophisticated stuff w/o using another software and wasting time doing intermediate render.

• Thanks for using our software and I’m glad to hear that you are happy with the integration of this package into Sony Vegas Pro and the immediacy and flexibility of effects generation that this pairing affords the end user. We think they work very well together.

Hi Ken,

When you run the product installer, it should present you with a dialogue box from where you can select the host target(s) for the plug-in. You can re-run the installer without harming the standalone version and select the Vegas host for the plug-in.

Thanks for trying our products – let’s see if we can understand what went wrong and correct the problem.

Right after you got the dialogue box / window prompting you to set a file name for the export, you should have seen a second dialogue box / window. This second window includes multiple tabs and is where you set the Avid specific properties for the export. There are a couple of reasons why this second window might not appear; for instance it could be a problem with the installation, or it could be that the trial period has expired. Either way, I think it warrants a call from one of our techs to sort out the issue with you.

Hi Tim,

Adobe CS 5 is a 64 bit application – Adobe CS 4 is a 32 bit application. The freebie BCC Mosaic and Tritone filters that you were using were designed to be used in a 32 bit application and cannot be used in a 64 bit application. There is no way to get them to work.

We recoded the filters in the BCC package so that they are 64 bit with the BCC 7 release, in an effort to make them compatible with 64 bit applications, such as CS5.

The only way for you to use these filters in CS 5 is to use the 64 bit versions, which are available as part of the BCC 7 filter package. You can download a free demo version here:
