The problem might be with selecting Quicktime as the compressor on the Windows platform. Can you try AVI?

You should be seeing Boris RED AVX 2.0 in the filter menu and if you click on it you should see Boris RED Filter, Boris RED Title-Matte Effect and Boris RED Transition. If you’re not seeing that then you might want to uninstall and reinstall RED.

Hi Heather,

All you need to do is to set the size and then keyframe the area selection box so that it is always covering the fly you can split the clip if you need to and only apply the filter to the split portion of the clip.) Then switch the mode pop-up from set-up region to remove area and you should be good to go. You might have to adjust the value in the replacement range parameter so that the filter is looking forward and behind by enough frames to find pixels to fill in the fly correctly.

What you are remembering is that the 3D tumble, spin, rotate text controls, which are accessible by clicking on the face track (labelled “text” when you twirl open the extruded text track) will indeed provide the ability to rotate each character on it’s own axis as a group.

The problem with this is that the pivot point for tumble is set to the baseline of the text and you can’t alter that. To get the results that you are looking for I would still suggest that you break the block of text into individual characters and perform the tumble / spin / rotate using the main track controls.

I’ll take your question as a feature request though and see what we can do to make possible the effect that you have in mind without having to break up the text into separate tracks.

Yes, this can indeed be done using Boris RED by following these steps:

• generate the desired text
• select the text shape track and then from the pulldown menu select Shape>Convert to Container … this action breaks all the letters up into individual tracks which are automatically nested into a 3D Container and each nested track can be subject to tumble, spin, rotate in 3D space.

• In BCC you can rotate individual characters in 3D space but no character level tumble or spin.

You could actually use the BCC Particle System included with RED 5 in Sony Vegas Pro, from within RED of course, which would enable you to do all of that work while remaining within the Vegas timeline.

Many particle based effects are indeed included with BCC for Vegas Pro, such as Snow, Rain, 3D Image Shatter, Clouds, Comet, Sparks etc. As to why the BCC Particle System filter itself was not included with BCC 7 for Vegas Pro … I’m not quite sure, but I’m looking into that and will provide an answer as soon as that becomes clear to me.

Hi,

You might actually be able to do that with the BCC motion tracking data. To test this, you should use the BCC filter of choice and track your subject, then click on the save button in the motion tracker pop-up in the filter control panel and save the data to the desktop. From there you should be able to import the xy offset data from the saved motion tracker file into any application that can use it.

It may be that you are working with a non-standard installation, which in this case means that you have installed the product on a drive other than the “C” drive. If that is indeed the case, then you need to click on the “Choose Folder” option and navigate to the drive where the product is installed, then go to Boris FX, inc\Keyframe Libraries 5\ and you should be all set.
