October 3, 2011 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Boris Red – Should I have Preview in Premiere?Aha … now I understand what you are looking for. Unfortunately the answer is no, this is not possible. If the RED UI is open then you will not see any of the adjustments made in RED in the Premiere Pro timeline until the RED UI is closed, or applied to the timeline.
The Update Monitor button is used to update or refresh the external client monitor display.
Cheers,
Peter.

October 3, 2011 at 6:24 pm in reply to: Boris Red – Should I have Preview in Premiere?Hi Dave,
Well without knowing all of the details of your system, it’s kind of difficult to provide you with an answer to your question.
I’d like to suggest, for the sake of expediency, that you drop a note over to our support group (support@borisfx.com) and one of the guys there will be able to help you set up RED so that you are seeing updated previews in the RED UI.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi,
The problem that you are experiencing is not related to the codec – DnxHD 185x is a supported Avid codec so it has to be another problem that is preventing you from being able to transfer this clip. Perhaps is is related to the file path not linking correctly or it might be a permissions issue? I’m not totally sure.
I’m going to ask that you contact one of the tech support guys here at Boris FX – they can go over your system with you and hopefully help you to resolve the issue. You can reach them via email at support@borisfx.com.
Cheers,
Peter.

October 3, 2011 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Is there a way to to determine the way the boris renders GPU vs CPU??Hi Don,
In order to provide you with the correct answer to your question, I’ll need to ask you a question. Have you tried using other BCC filters and if so, do you see the same difference in CPU hit?
Regarding the GPU / CPU thing – most of the filters in BCC are CPU bound and do not use the GPU at all. In BCC 7, you will notice that there is a category of effects that is titled OpenGL … all of the filters in this group rely totally on the GPU to render a result. There is also a category of filters titled 3D Objects and all of the filters that are in this group rely on the GPU to render. Other than that, they all use the CPU.
Cheers,
Peter.

September 30, 2011 at 1:13 pm in reply to: BorisRed5 StandAlone Trial Version DOES NOT Render MOV FilesHi Steve,
Here’s the scoop.
The movie files that you are trying to render, .mov, rely on the Quicktime codec. Because there isn’t a 64 bit version of the Quicktime codec available, RED 5 64 bit cannot render out or read in Quicktime based files. You can however install the RED 5 32 bit version which uses the 32 bit version of Quicktime and will enable you to complete your work. You can download the 32 bit version from our web site at borisfx.com/downloads and the license that you already have will work for both 64 and 32 bit versions of the software.
I hope this helps.

Peter.

September 26, 2011 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Type on Text / Extruded Text take forever to playbackHi Darren,
The Type-on and Extruded text plug-ins are hardware accelerated and require OpenGL to render. The only level of configuration that is required for these filters is with regard to the video card driver so it may be that you need to update the driver for the video card on your system. I’d start with that, updating the driver to the most recent available on the ATI site for that card to see if it helps.

Peter.

September 26, 2011 at 1:27 pm in reply to: BORIS RED 4.3 – how do you partially rotate a still imageHi John,
If you are using Boris RED in Sony Vegas Pro, then all you need to do is to apply Boris RED to the image that you want to affect, then enter into the Boris RED UI and you will see a control panel on the left of the monitor and a timeline window at the bottom with a composite viewer to the right. Select the image by clicking on the track in the Boris RED timeline window, then in the control panel you will notice a set of parameter control dials, which are labelled tumble x, spin y and rotate z. Adjust the rotate z parameter dial value to achieve the degree of rotation that you need – you can view the result in the composite window. Once you are satisfied with the result, click on the apply button to return to the Vegas Pro timeline.
Note that the Boris RED effect remains totally editable even after you have applied it o the Vegas Pro timeline.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Rex,
It sounds like a memory related issue but we can’t be sure without more information. The first thing I would suggest would be to reduce the value in the Polygon Count parameter or maybe setting the antialiasing pop-up to good or draft. Perhaps if someone were to work with you on the phone we might be able to find a solution to the problem. Can you please call into out support group … you an reach them toll free at 1 888 772 6747. Or if you prefer email, try support@borisfx.com.

Peter.

Hi Steve,
You might also try using the BCC Noise Reduction filter – it’s brand new to RED 5.

Peter.
