Hi Matthias,

The filter should be placed by the installer into the Adobe/Common/Plugins/Mediacore folder. Can you look to see if it’s there? If the problem is that they are indeed installed into this location and they are not showing up in Premiere Pro CS4 then you can manually move them into the Premiere Pro plugin folder, restart Premiere Pro and see if that makes them available in the Premiere Pro UI.

Try placing the title tracks and the particles filter into a 3D container track – this will prevent the particles filter from affecting anything that is outside of the container.

I seem to recall that there was a problem with the RED 5 Transition effect in Premiere Pro 5.5, and it’s unclear to me whether or not this problem was on our end or if the problem was something that we could have resolved. You should make sure that you have the latest version of both Boris RED 5 and also Premiere Pro – if you do not then this is the first thing to do in order to attempt to resolve the issue.

Having said that, if you use the RED 5 Filter effect you should be able to achieve the same effect as you would have with the RED 5 Transition and I’m pretty sure that this worked without a hitch.

We haven’t seen any issues in our labs with either BCC 7 FxPlug or BCC 7 AE under Lion. Have you been experiencing any problems or issues that you believe are related to BCC 7?

Wow … that’s a lot of fonts. Have you tried to see if the fonts display any problems in other applications, such as MS Word or Adobe Photoshop? It might be more of a system thing than something with RED.

Having said that, as far as I am aware, there are no theoretical limits as to the number of fonts that RED can handle. As long as the system can handle them then RED should be able to work with them too. It may be that there are some fonts which are corrupt and causing RED to have a corruption in it’s font database – you might want to remove all of the newly added fonts and then just add them in groups, say 100 at a time, rebuilding the font database in RED after each font load.

Hi,

You need to twirl open the DeGrain filter in the timeline until you see the track labelled Sample Layer. Then set the media well for the Sample layer to be the same as the track that you are filtering by clicking on the V1 button on the track and either selecting the media from the host or manually importing the media from the desktop.

Or, you can select the DeGrain filter to bring the filter parameters into the controls window, then go to the tab labelled Sample Controls and disable the option Use Sample Layer Track.

As an alternate choice to the DeGrain filter, you might also want to take a look at the Noise Reduction filter – it’s a lot faster than the DeGrain filter.

Hey Ken,

Sounds like you’re using the RED 64 version, which cannot render out to the Quicktime codec because Quicktime is not 64 bit. You have a couple of options though:

• select a different codec, one that is 64 bit on Windows, such as AVI.

or

• download and use the RED 32 bit version, which can render out to Quicktime codec. you can download the 32 bit version of Boris RED from our site at borisfx.com/downloads.

And just as an FYI, you should have had the option to install into Vegas, or other supported hosts, as well as having the standalone version on the same system.

Hi Ken,

• When Boris RED is used as a plug-in, ie, in Vegas, then the length of the composition in RED is determined by the length of the clip to which the plug-in was applied. If the clip in Vegas is 2 seconds long, then the timeline in the RED composition will be 2 seconds in duration. To change the length of the RED composition in this scenario, you must change the length of the clip in Vegas.

• When in Vegas there is no need for RED to render anything – it is all handled by the Vegas host render pipe.

• When using Boris RED in standalone mode, the length of the composition is set in the field marked Dur. in the RED timeline. Simply click in the field, enter the desired value and the composition timeline will be set to that value.

• There is no limit to the number of times that you can export a composition. ou can render and re-render, using a different name each time (RED will auto-increment the file name to prevent accidental overwrite or you can rename the file yourself before or after rendering)
