“With the current models the 2.3 is a good choice (PCI-X and 8 RAM slots)”

Does the 2.7 have PCI-X and 8 RAM slots as well?

Also, what graphic card would someone recomend at this point for top-of-the-line performance with FCP 5 and a Decklink HD plus card. With the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL taking up an extra PCI or PCI-X slot, will that severly limit my options for maximizing performace with Decklink and a SCSI or Fibre Channel card?

How different is the performance of the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL from the ATI Radeon 9650 w/256MB DDR SDRAM?

Or should I go for the ATI Radeon 9650 w/256MB DDR SDRAM from the apple store and replace it with a ATI 800X?

Sorry for all the questions but the graphics card choices have me extremely confused!!!

    Thanks in advance.

You may want to see if cables are crossing, touching, etc. in the back. A post below mentions that can cause interferance. Good luck…

Capture the video as you normally do.
    Go to export>Quicktime Conversion
    Select “still image”
It defaults to PNG but I always change it JPEG.

Come to think of it, why is the default PNG? Is that the best way to go? I’ve had problems opeing PNGs in Photoshop in the past so I started with JPEGs.

    Hey Julian,

Could you report back if the problem creeps up again for you. I’ve had this exact problem come-and-go for 6 months now and I’d love to find out for sure if it’s cable interfearance.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Julian,

I started to get this too recently after using an Extreme card for 5 months. By any chance do you have external media drives sitting next to your monitor? I moved mine away from the monitor and haven’t seen the lines since (just 2 days – fingers are crossed). There are some other posts here about “interference” that touch on the probelm too. Let us know if you figure it out…

May 17, 2005 at 6:53 pm in reply to: Out of Memory??

An “out of memory” error can be due to a corrupt file, not a lack of RAM. I’ve seen it with a program with a lot of PSD files or PSD files that have FCP effects or filters on individual layers. If anyone comes across that you can try deleting your PSD files first to see if your sequence will open. Try deleting render files too. Hope that helps…

Studio RGB is what I meant, not Lumincance. Sorry ’bout that.

Yup, have authored LOTS of DVDs via M100 > export as ref > Bitvice – check interlaced and luminamce correction > DVDSP, and never had a problem.

Gotta get Bitvice – https://www.innobits.se/. An essential investment if you’re making DVDs out of M100

Once you pull the AIFF file off the CD to your hard drive you’ll have to convert it in QT PRO to 48.000 khz from the CD rate of 41.000. Then you’ll be able to import and use in your FCP sequence.

but of course, there are the legal matters as discussed above…

May 3, 2005 at 3:38 pm in reply to: Nattress Film Effects Question

    Thanks again Graeme!

With all due respect since YOU ARE THE GURU – I’ve learned a TON from reading your Nattress manual for the film filters…I’ve been working in Lower Field 720×486 for the past few years in both Media 100 and FCP. I always render out of AE in Lower Field.

Field order was explained to me in the past as Lower Field for rectangular pixels 720×480 and 720×486 and Upper Filed for square pixels, 640×480. When Media 100 made the switch to 720×486 from 640×480 (around 2001, not sure which version) my workflow HAD to change to lower field.

But again, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HELP and look forward to your next response. I just hope that info may help in some way.

    Thanks again!!!
