Thank you very much bogiesan. upon further inspection i think it’s a funky size JPG image on V1 serving as the BG for the alpha movie that’s causing the slow response. Someone else put it in there – I typically don’t work with large JPGs as BGs.
Rendering the alpha movie over standard video footage works fine. I appreciate your response and insight.

December 9, 2006 at 12:25 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?There are a lot of people here who may ask questions that are far below the knowledge of others. But equally, there are a lot of people here who answer them with a serious chip on their shoulder. There’s no need to be condesending with your opinion. You may or not be right yourself. Try to stay positive. It’s more constructive and you’ll probably feel better, less angry.
Thanks for you opinion. We’ll all take it into consideration.

December 8, 2006 at 3:35 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?Thanks Gary – that’s interesting. Do you think apple only needs to tweak the error message, not the actual functionality of FCP 5.1.2? In your opinion is it then safe to kit “ok” and move on as normal? I’ll need to media manage the project down the line and want to avoid relinking problems.

December 7, 2006 at 10:29 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?I am trying to capture 24p panasonic material when this happens. I’ve done it many many times though via the DV-NTSC 29.97 easy setup on other computers pre FCP 5.1.2 and never had a problem. It’s the old standard way of capturing 24p normal mode into FCP.

December 7, 2006 at 10:14 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?I just made a report to apple – not easy to find this page on their site, https://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html
Hopefully it’ll be addressed in the update…

December 7, 2006 at 8:06 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?I think it can be traced to 5.1.2 too. I have OS 10.4.8 and QT 7.1.3 on another computer with FCP 5.0.4 and everything is fine. I’ll submit a form as well – thanks for your input.

December 7, 2006 at 6:21 pm in reply to: FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?It just cropped up this morning so I haven’t gone any further with the project on that computer….Huh, from your expereince and what a lot of other are saying the most up-to-date combo is really problematic with digitzing and time code. Someone mentioned QT 7.1.3 being the issue. Do you have any idea if Apple is aware of this and/or how to submit a bug report to them?
thanks in advance.

BACKUP IMMEDIATLEY!!!!! Sounds like your motherboard is about to go. If you’re able to clone your HD I’d do it right away. The next time you need to reboot the computer it may not start up. Sorry for the doomsday scenerio but a similar thing happened to me.

April 16, 2006 at 9:39 pm in reply to: Is everyone else resetting their AJA I/O as much as me????Are you going in and out of FCP and After Effects? We get hangs ups occasionally when an editor doesn’t tap the desktop between applications when both are open. Other than that it’s been pretty solid.

It may be your motherboard has gone bad. Make sure an insanely qualified person looks at your computer at this point and replaces the motherboard if necesary. It can be a very delicate procedure and if it’s not done right you can kiss the whole thing goodbye…except your hard drive which should be fine.
If you have another G5 you should take your harddrive out of the one that’s down and hook it up in the other one. Grab your data ASAP.
Stay calm – you’ll be okay. Good luck!
