  • 5.1.2 slow response with Alpha Channel AE movies

Has anyone else expereinced slow response times when dragging Lossless (animation codec) + Alpha movies (out of AE) around a FCP sequence? It’s not quite the spinning beachball but I’ll see the cursor arrow “fill-up” for about 2-3 seconds everytime I move an alpha movie.

It’s a brand new Mac Pro, most up-tp-date OS, FCP, QT, with 4GB RAM.

    THANKS

You’d need to do some tests before concluding it’s the file itself. Could be your sequence settings or the physical location of the file or even a slight change in the output from AE.

Is this something that just started recently?

Thank you very much bogiesan. upon further inspection i think it’s a funky size JPG image on V1 serving as the BG for the alpha movie that’s causing the slow response. Someone else put it in there – I typically don’t work with large JPGs as BGs.

Rendering the alpha movie over standard video footage works fine. I appreciate your response and insight.

Anytime, and thanks for the nice words.
Usually I just get flipped off.

FCP’s rendering pipeline can get sticky when you are trying to do multiple operations at once such as scaling and moving and processing an alpha.
