Having memory issues as well. Flakiest thing since the .3 upgrade: Opened a 1080/29.97 project only to have it look fuzzy. Checked the settings only to find it was now 720/25. Tried to change it back but 720 and 25 were the only “custom” options available. Copied the storyline(s) and pasted them into a new 1080 project and got back to work. Exported…got revisions list….moved the whole thing over to Premiere Pro/AE and put FCPX back on the shelf for another day. I don’t have time/money for this nonsense.

You can mix whatever formats you want on any timeline in Premiere. Go through the presets with the settings tab selected to see their different attributes. They’re really great starting places. They insure you get to the right aspect ratio and frame frate and codec probably first and foremost.

As far as titling multi-cam I do on a copy of the multicam cut sequence. At that point it’s all pretty much just graphics on V2.

  • So you say “widescreen” but do you mean HD? NTSC? Something else? If it’s just a 16×9 output you’re looking for you can build a custom project size in CS4 to fit whatever specs you need or decide you want. I used to edit all sorts of things at 640×360 for web delivery as an example. Not a standard broadcast spec but it is “widescreen” or 16×9.

In CS4 I think the option for building a truly custom resolution was still listed as “Desktop” mode. Poke around the settings tab of any project preset and you’ll find the window/pull down that can give you all the options you need. It changed in CS5 and I can’t cast my memory back there to where I can say for certain what the steps are.

If it’s truly a custom resolution that’s where you want to start. I’d say build it at 620×352 and see how the other clips look scaled up/down to fit it. Everything will need to be rendered, but that shouldn’t be too bad.

  • -Import the new file to your project
-Highlight the audio to be replaced in the timeline
-Alt/Option drag the new clip onto the highlighted clip in the timeline
    -Green + appears
-Drop the clip to replace in place

Open the clip in After Effects or Audition and export a new .wav. Sync it, lock it and back to work.

  • Folders yes, sub-folders no. So, if you import a folder that contains two subfolders you will get that main folder with all the clips but no subfolders. I suggest you build the main folders in your project panel and then import just the sub-folders into them. A small extra step, but if you have that many clips it’s worth the time.

You can highlight and copy any attribute or effect(s) in the effect control panel. Pretty much the same as FCP if you’re counting clicks.

Is playback resolution set to full? This is from the flyout menu-top right-of the program monitor.

    So what’s wrong with command/option/v?

I meant editing at 720p as opposed to 1080p.
