I’ve been using the Creative Suite since v1 and I have to say I’ve never felt it work better than it does on my MacBook Pro. Purchased a 15″ quad i7 with 16gig of ram in March 2011. At that time was 5.0 and coming from an HP 8200 with with the same software and the difference was really nice. I had that workstation pretty spec’ed out with 32 gig of ram and a new quadro card so it was plenty fast and all, but the move back to mac was better than I expected. And it almost didn’t happen…I had originally ordered a Dell mobile workstation laptop but they built it wrong and the thing wouldn’t even boot. In need of a machine I told our guy to add a macbook to the next order and I’ve never looked back.
If I was buying a new workstation I’d probably go HP. But the outfit I’m with is a take it with you and work wherever you are kinda joint so there ain’t a workstation to be seen.
I’d recommend you get a MacBook Pro. No opinion on whether you go Retina or not. I’ve got a Thunderbolt monitor I run mine through at work and at home so display-wise I’m set and agnostic.

How much of an investment do you make in 4K resolutions? I realize there are a lot of sides to this question. It’s been many years since I last shot something in SD, yet I’ve NEVER burned a Blu-ray disc for any of my clients. Never even been asked.

Option + right/left arrow. Shift+Option+right/left arrow for Large Trim Offset. Amount of Large Trim Offset can be set in Preferences/Trim.

Try importing one of the files into After Effects and see if it will play there. AE doesn’t care so much about the file structure and such. If it works you can output/encode from there.

Try copying the .vob files to another drive and change the extension to .mpg.

And if you highlight the encode data (not the title of the sequence) and duplicate, you can encode/output multiple versions (.mov & h.264 for example) at the same time.

Open Media Encoder, add sequences, export.

You can also control/command highlight multiple effects and save them all off as a single preset.

No need to unlink. Option click on audio 1 and delete it. Then add a “Fill Right” effect to Audio 2 and you’ll have 2 channels of audio coming from that single track. Right click on that track and “Edit in Audition”. Sweeten/adjust/normalize the track in Audition and save. It will replace the audio on you timeline in PPro.
Does 5.5 still use Soundbooth? If so, that’s where you can fix your track.
