Is there any tool that can tell me the exact bit rate used on the original DVD & would it be helpful in knowing what bit rate to use on the newer material?
Am I on the right track when I suggested that any new material should be in a separate file for both Vegas & DVDA? I seem to recall that if DVDA finds that each separate file is a compliant MPEG2 file it won’t touch them & that you can actually have files with different bit rates on then & they won’t get re rendered. Is this correct?
Could I have any other problems like if one file was interlaced & another one wasn’t. If Vegas can take the old video which I suspect is interlaced would converting it to progressive scan result in re compression?
Thanks in advance

As you say the joys of the digital age. Mind you I can’t but help think that simplicity wasn’t anything that was required then this age was designed. Lets look at the introduction of digital TV. That would have been the perfect time to eliminate all of the nonsense from analogue age. It would have been the ideal time to ditch having different systems PAL & NTSC, different frame rates 25 & 29.97 etc. But instead vested interests wanted to be better at controlling the market place even if it meant creating a new mess.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for that information about the script. I’ve now used it & it works. I shall have to remember that whenever I use nested veg files to be sure to put a market at the beginning of each veg file since this is unnecessary when your not using the nested feature.

I have resized one very large photo to 1/4 of it’s original size & replaced the original on timeline. I looped the event & kept hitting the undo/redo button. Both flicker equally. By original picture looks sharper however. In an effort to ensure that no still went without this anti flicker switch turned on I applied the switch to every event on the timeline. I’m guessing that if this switch can’t be used nothing happens. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks for the answers. I still don’t understand just why the prefered option is to use DVDa & have less options.

Sorry I must not have explained myself clearly enough. I already aware of what you said. What I’m asking about is in addition to the 6 chapters displayed as thumbnails on the screen you often see a small set of brackets across the bottom of the screen which display ranges of chapters like [1-6],[7-12],[13-18],[19-24],etc. Clicking on the third brackets takes you to the scene selection which has chapters 13-18. Can this be done?

No. I;m just clicking on an event once then delete.

I did as you suggested & found that it worked OK as far as it goes. Instead of one new file for each clip I got 2. One for each video track & one for each audio clip. When I dragged them all to the time line the video & audio wound up on separate tracks as you might expect. The audio for each audio track was offset from it’s mate by the length of the video track. I suppose that you could add the video tracks first & then select all of the audio tracks later, unless there is some easier way.
Thanks in advance

I can see that this feature is crazy. I have just added yet another file to the project & even though the file is from the exact same source it says that it doesn’t have to compress this last file. Adding this file naturally increases the percentage over disc capacity that it thinks its dealing with. If I then select this last item & which it says doesn’t need to be compressed & change it to compress the percentage that this exceeds disc capacity increases rather than decreases as if it wanted to increase the bit rate.
Thanks in advance

But if I proceed will it allow me to make DVD as is? I’m trying to get the disk made without having to re render & it may not allow me to proceed without using fit to disk command.
Thanks in advance
