Reworking an old family DVD
I was given an family DVD’s along with some new video footage & asked to see if I could add the additional footage to the disk so as to have a more complete video of the baby over the years. Its easy to edit the new footage but the originals that went into making the old DVD has long gone. I know that I can do the job but I was concerned about loosing some quality from the original footage since it isn’t that great to begin with. It seems what needs to be done to to import the original footage into Vegas with little or no loss of quality it that’s possible Then add any new footage into the project before rendering out the project & creating new menus in DVDA3.
What is the best way to get the old video onto the time line? Convert the VOB files to MPEG2 using a program like VideoReDo to do this job or is their some way to get the files directly from the disk using Vegas 6?
I think that I have to avoid having both old & new material on the time line at the time of rendering so as to avoid getting the old material from being re rendered.
I’m guessing that any new material has to be added as a separate file & imported into DVDA as then use it as an extra or a new chapter. I’m assuming that the original menus can’t be reuses or added to. I’m likely to find that the old & new material will be encoded at different bit rates. Can DVDA handle that situation?
Am I on the right track or is there a better way to tackle this job? Any other suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
