Yes my settings are at 8.50 GB. By changing it it said that my files plus the extras would only use 76% of a dual layer disk.

I notice that when its displayed this way that it say that the default bit rate is 6,000,000. The original file was presumably created using a higher bit rate since I has accepted the Vegas default figures which were mentioned in a previous posting. The only change made to the original default Vegas settings was the change from goo to best quality & from lower field first to progressive.

    Thanks in advance

Yes. It shows that I will only be using 76% of media even when an small extra folder is added.

    Thanks in advance

There is only one 4.9GB MPEG2 file the other was the much smaller AC3 file. The optomize function says that the whole project will easily fit on a dual layer disk.

    Thanks in advance

  • Thanks for that info. I was concerned because the properties of the veg files can have instructions re things like, rendering quality, progressive or interlaced output etc.

    Thanks in advance

I’m only using version 3 of DVDA & I can’t see that option listed. A lot of what’s listed under ‘Optomise’ doesn’t appear to allow you to alter the settings displayed. Things like recompress. I bring this up because I have had on several occasion had DVDA recompress files that didn’t need to be recompressed.

    Thanks in advance

March 10, 2008 at 1:02 am in reply to: Capture failure

Since I could not capture in Vegas I eventually turned to Windows Movie Maker 2 which is also on my machine. This capture my video & created an avi file which I can open in Vegas. WMM2 seemed to have created thumbnails for each indivual clip but in Vegas I only have one large clip. Is this normal or do I still have to do something in WMM to divided the large clip into smaller clips?

    Thanks in advance

February 7, 2008 at 11:43 pm in reply to: DVDA want to recompress small video files

Yes I will be using a dual layer disk since I don’t want recompression. I won’t try burning the disk until DVDA tells me that it won’t recompress. I also have a smaller progressive file in the project & no mention is made about wanting to recompress it. Even with this other file it said that I would be using about 80% of disks capacity.

Additionally I was thinking of adding an extra folder that contained a copy of all stills used in making the video but didn’t add it to the project yet since I am under the impression that that the DVDA calculation about what percentage of a disks capacity it will use for your project files doesn’t take these extras into consideration. Please correct me if I’m wrong?

    Thanks in advance

January 24, 2008 at 5:41 am in reply to: Reworking an old family DVD

I did what was suggested, imported the old files directly from the DVD & it worked well in fact it even split up the original into the DVD’s chapters. What I don’t understand is that one of these chapters has no audio. I went back to the DVD which was still in the DVD burner & told PowerDVD to play it & it did. When it was played here there is audio for the same chapter. Why should this be so?

    Thanks in advance
