  • Is Progressive scan the problem?

I rendered out a project in Vegas 6 that was 151 minutes long. I created 2 files using the DVDA3 Pal wide screen & AC3 templates & altered the settings to best quality & then changed video to progressive scan. I accepted the default bit rate to 8,000,000 maximum,6,000,000 average & 192,000 minimum & got a file of 4.9GB according to Windows . That size was OK because I was going to use a dual layer disk so that I could include other files as well.

What I can’t inderstand is that DVDA3’s Optomize tells me that the files needs to be re compressed. The general tab under Optomize says that the estimated files size for video is 5244. I’m at a loss as to why the file needs to be re compressed. Can anyone enlighten me on this score. Could it be because I made my file progressive scan?

    Thanks in advance

I don’t really use DVD Architect, but did you make two files that were each 4.9GB OR two files that together equaled 4.9GB?

There is only about 4.3GB (or so) available for use on each DVD layer… don’t know why – such is life. Maybe DVDA thinks it can’t fit it all on one dual layer disc?

There is only one 4.9GB MPEG2 file the other was the much smaller AC3 file. The optomize function says that the whole project will easily fit on a dual layer disk.

In the Properties setting for DVDA, did you change the “Target Media Size (GB) folder from 4.70 to 8.50?

Yes. It shows that I will only be using 76% of media even when an small extra folder is added.

    Thanks in advance

Yes my settings are at 8.50 GB. By changing it it said that my files plus the extras would only use 76% of a dual layer disk.

I notice that when its displayed this way that it say that the default bit rate is 6,000,000. The original file was presumably created using a higher bit rate since I has accepted the Vegas default figures which were mentioned in a previous posting. The only change made to the original default Vegas settings was the change from goo to best quality & from lower field first to progressive.

    Thanks in advance
